How Jaguar plans to save itself
  + stars: | 2024-12-04 | by ( Robert Ferris | In | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +5 min
Glover said the first actual production model Jaguar is expected to launch in 2026 and will closely resemble the concept. Jaguar Land Rover hit an annual sales record in 2017. Though that was largely thanks to the success of Land Rover's three lines of muscular SUVs, Jaguar sales hit 178,601, a 20% increase over the previous year, at that point. Jaguar's struggles are not unique, said Karl Brauer, executive analyst for iSeeCars, a car shopping website and data provider. "Going volume definitely didn't help," said Charles Tennant, an independent auto analyst who is both the former chief engineer at Land Rover and a former director at Tata Motors, who advised the Indian carmaker on the Jaguar and Land Rover acquisition.

CNN —There’ll be a strong sense of déjà vu when French President Emmanuel Macron lays the flattery on thick for Donald Trump in Paris this weekend. In the messy patchwork of conflicts raging across the Middle East, one country has been absent from the spotlight: Syria. That he has survived was largely because of the intervention of Russia, Iran and Hezbollah, Iran’s Lebanon-based proxy. In all, the U.N. has documented more than 350,000 deaths but says this is “certainly an undercount.”Today, however, Russia, Iran and Lebanon are distracted and depleted. All of this “puts Assad in a much weaker position.”But “the Syrian regime, in coordination with the Russians and less so the Iranians, will hit them with everything they’ve got,” he added. “Much as I oppose the Assad regime, its atrocities and abuses, what is happening in Aleppo right now is terrifying.

CNN —The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a surprising new view of a long-studied galactic neighbor, the Sombrero galaxy, revealing a perspective that looks quite different from the wide-brimmed Mexican hat for which it was named. CNN —President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son has left some Democrats fuming over his choice to repeatedly and unequivocally claim that he would never take that step, even though a pardon long appeared possible to Hunter Biden’s legal team. That comes despite the White House saying that a final decision on the pardon was reached only this weekend. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said as recently as November 7 that a pardon for Hunter Biden was not being considered. Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son presented a delicate balancing act for the president, who has long been fiercely loyal to his family, even when it comes at his own personal or political detriment. People close to the president’s son said they didn’t want him to have to undergo sentencing.

It comes as Syria's powerful allies, Iran and Russia, are distracted with other conflicts. With Russia and Iran distracted by regional conflicts, a stagnant 13-year-long civil war in Syria has exploded into renewed violence. It's the most intense outbreak of fighting in the war since Syrian government forces, backed by Iran and Russia, drove rebels back to their strongholds in the north eight years ago, and a stalemate developed. "Israel has changed the balance of power in the region by going on this all-out war on the axis of resistance." CNN —President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter deepened an entanglement of politics and the rule of law that has tarnished faith in American justice and is almost certain to worsen in Donald Trump’s second term. And the cases against Hunter Biden lack the constitutional gravity or historic importance of the indictments against Trump and his frequent attacks on the rule of law. Already, Republicans are arguing the Hunter Biden pardon shows that the current president, and not the next one, is most to blame for politicizing the system of justice by meting out favorable treatment to his son. Yet at the same time, Hunter Biden put himself in a position in which he created a political vulnerability and potential conflict of interest for his father. Then, the investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign’s ties to Russia soured many of the 45th president’s supporters on the justice system.
