As you may have noticed, “sex” is out, and “sex assigned at birth” is in. Instead of asking for a person’s sex, some medical and camp forms these days ask for “sex assigned at birth” or “assigned sex” (often in addition to gender identity). The shift to “sex assigned at birth” may be well intentioned, but it is not progress. We are not against politeness or expressions of solidarity, but “sex assigned at birth” can confuse people and creates doubt about a biological fact when there shouldn’t be any. Nor is the phrase called for because our traditional understanding of sex needs correcting — it doesn’t.

Dominion wants Lambert removed from the case and suggested in court Monday that she might have committed a crime by disseminating the files to Leaf.

Happily, the subject of the unflattering picture turns out to be a newspaper editor delighted to find such a promising new talent. In the context of the book’s publication, it’s oddly devastating. NEW YORK (AP) — A man convicted in the notorious drug-related killing of a rookie New York City police officer at the height of the city's crack epidemic decades ago has been denied parole, a union representing NYPD officers said Sunday. Todd Scott had been serving 25 years to life for his role in the shooting death of Officer Edward Byrne in Queens. Scott was convicted of second-degree murder and has been serving his sentence at the maximum-security state prison in Shawangunk. Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association, said in a statement that the union was “relieved” Scott was denied parole. NEW YORK (AP) — Broadway audiences will soon be hearing the hit songs of Alicia Keys — not far from where the multiple-Grammy-winner grew up. “Hell's Kitchen,” the semi-autobiographical musical by the singer-songwriter, is making the move uptown from off-Broadway to the Shubert Theatre this spring. The musical features Keys’ best-known hits: “Fallin’,” “No One,” “Girl on Fire,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” and, of course, “Empire State of Mind,” as well as four new songs. “Hell's Kitchen,” in a way, is a full-circle moment for the Keys' family. The new Bed Bath & Beyond announced Monday its CEO, Jonathan Johnson, is immediately stepping down from his position just days after activist hedge fund JAT Capital called for his ouster. He led the company through its acquisition of Bed Bath & Beyond earlier this year and its corporate name change to Beyond Inc. , which took effect Monday. David Nielsen, Beyond's president and a former Payless ShoeSource executive, has taken over as interim CEO while the board undergoes a search for a permanent candidate. Beyond said Johnson's departure "follows mutual agreement" between him and the board to transition the company to new leadership, but the move came on suddenly. The company and Johnson didn't immediately return a request for comment seeking additional information.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

Nov 1 (Reuters) - Nutrien (NTR.TO) fell short of analysts' estimates for third-quarter profit on Wednesday, as lower potash prices weighed on the world's biggest fertilizer producer. Potash prices have been falling after shipments from Belarus and Russia resumed. Demand for fertilizers was also weak during much of the year, analysts have said, as farmers waited for prices to settle down. Potash prices averaged $250 per tonne during the reported quarter, the company said, compared with $633 per tonne a year earlier. Nutrien said potash sales volumes, however, climbed 23% on strong sales in North America.

CEO Henry Ward cofounded Carta, originally called eShares, in 2012 as a service for startups to digitize their paper stock certificates. Today Carta helps startups track their investors, employees manage their equity awards, and venture capitalists administer their funds. The lawsuit says that 10 days after Rogers filed her complaint, Ward "began treating Ms. Rogers in an aggressive and demeaning manner during several meetings."
