But for now, the price tag attached to the Dominion case isn’t the worst Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch has had to stomach. A phone hacking scandal involving Murdoch’s tabloid newspaper empire in the United Kingdom has proven much more costly over the past decade or so. It looked at legal fees and damages, as well as expenses tied to the subsequent restructuring of Murdoch’s UK media empire. The last big Murdoch legal fightThe editor of Murdoch’s News of the World and a private investigator were convicted of conspiracy to hack the voicemails of British royals in 2007. Britain’s Prince Harry and actor Hugh Grant are among those who have filed legal challenges against The Sun tied to phone hacking.
Hong Kong CNN —Chinese authorities have closed the Beijing office of Mintz Group, an American corporate due diligence firm, and detained five local staff, the company said Friday. In a statement provided to CNN, Mintz Group, which is based in New York, said it had not received any official legal notice regarding a case against the company and had requested that authorities release its employees. It also follows unusually direct comments by Chinese leader Xi Jinping targeting the United States, accusing Washington of trying to “contain” and “suppress” China. In 2013, Shanghai authorities arrested Peter Humphrey, a former British journalist turned corporate investigator, and his American wife and business partner Yu Yingzeng, who operated consultancy company, ChinaWhys. Humphrey was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison, while Yu received a two-year sentence.
A new paper that analyzed data from 41 studies found that exercise had a big effect on depression. Researchers found that exercise improved depression symptoms at least as much as other treatments. They said that exercise should be offered as "an evidence-based treatment option" for patients. Aerobic exercise and resistance training had big effects on reducing depression symptoms, the authors noted, as did supervised and group exercises of "moderate intensity." A 2018 study published in JAMA Psychiatry found that strength training can help treat depression just as well as aerobic exercise.
Balance training is an often overlooked skill that can boost both your longevity and quality of life, researchers say. A 2022 study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that, for people over 50 years old, not being able to stand on one foot for 10 seconds was associated with a higher risk of death from any cause within the next decade. Of the 1,700 adults in the study, 20% didn't pass the test. About 36 million falls are reported among older adults each year — resulting in more than 32,000 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That's why, as a health and fitness trainer, one of the biggest things I focus on is improving my clients' balance.
Jan 23 (Reuters) - Brazil's federal police said on Monday they had a "strong conviction" a gang leader known as "Colombia" ordered the brutal murders of British journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous expert Bruno Pereira, killed in the Amazon rainforest last June. The gang leader, Ruben Dario da Silva Villar, is already in police detention after being charged along with three other people for double homicide and concealment of corpses. According to police, Villar was the leader and key financier of an armed criminal group engaged in illegal fishing in the Amazon. Pereira and Phillips vanished last year in a trip to the remote Javari Valley, on the border between Peru and Colombia. ‘Spare’ Review: Titled and Entitled

‘Our royalty is to be reverenced,” the British journalist Walter Bagehot once wrote, “and if you begin to poke about it you cannot reverence it. Its mystery is its life. We must not let in daylight upon magic.” Daylight? Oh, if only. In his score-settling, setting-the-record-straight, ghost-written memoir, “Spare”—perhaps you’ve heard about it, then heard about it some more—Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, spills his tea about his frostbitten penis (spare us), the loss of his virginity ( please, spare us) and his copious youthful drug use and alcohol consumption (who would have guessed?).
Finding the time, or motivation, to read a 300-plus page book after an exhausting workday is no easy feat. "There is so much valuable knowledge you can learn from books and put into practice in your own life …. Many of the world's most successful business leaders, from Bill Gates to Warren Buffett, are proud bibliophiles, citing reading as an important habit for sparking creativity and broadening your understanding of the world. Gates said that Gallwey's insights "subtly affected" how he showed up to work throughout his career at Microsoft. This "is an outstanding book about CEOs who excelled at capital allocation," Buffett wrote in his 2012 letter to shareholders.

REUTERS/Ueslei Marcelino/File PhotoMEXICO CITY, Dec 14 (Reuters) - Mexico is the country where most journalists were killed in 2022, media watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said on Wednesday in a report that documented alarming evidence of kidnappings, assaults and arrests of media workers. The report registered 11 killings of media professionals in the Latin American country from January to Dec. 1, or nearly 20% of the global total, the report said. Freedom of speech advocacy groups have documented even more killings of media workers this year, making 2022 the deadliest year on record for journalists in Mexico. Worldwide, RSF reported 57 journalist killings, an 18.8% increase from 2021, driven mainly by the war in Ukraine. The organization reported 49 media workers went missing and other 65 were kidnapped globally.

Dec 9 (Reuters) - Here is a look at migrant workers' rights issues in Qatar, which is hosting the 2022 World Cup from Nov. 20-Dec. 18:WHAT IS QATAR'S RECORD ON MIGRANT WORKERS' RIGHTS? * Britain's Guardian reported last year that at least 6,500 migrant workers -- many of them working on World Cup projects -- had died in Qatar since it won the right to stage the World Cup, according to the paper's calculations from official records. * Qatari World Cup organisers, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, said that there have been three work-related fatalities and 37 non-work-related deaths among workers at World Cup 2022 sites. * In September, England's FA said families of migrant workers in Qatar who were injured or killed while constructing the infrastructure for this year's World Cup should be compensated. * The shirts worn by the Netherlands team during the World Cup will be auctioned to support migrant workers in Qatar, the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) said this month.
Dec 8 (Reuters) - An indigenous group from the area of the Amazon rainforest where British journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous expert Bruno Pereira were murdered in June on Thursday deplored the release of one of the suspects in the killing. The Union of Indigenous Peoples of the Javari Valley (Univaja) said in a statement that the man's release pointed to the negligence of Brazilian authorities in prosecuting the case and their failure to contain organized crime in the region. Federal Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the judge's decision. It seems that the investigations are being carried out in an ineffective way or have simply been stopped," Univaja said. The Amazonas court did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
BRASILIA — Brazil’s Indigenous leaders were disappointed on Monday after President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva appeared to backtrack on a promise to create a ministry of Indigenous affairs to help restore rights and protections that were undermined by the current government. Lula said on Friday he might instead decide on a special department linked to the presidential office rather than a fully-fledged ministry, which disappointed Indigenous leaders who were taken by surprise by his comments. The ministry was important for the historical recognition of Brazil’s 900,000 indigenous people and reparation for their mistreatment and loss of land rights, she told Reuters. Lula drew loud applause at the COP27 climate talks in Egypt last month when he told delegates he explicitly promised an Indigenous ministry to ensure “dignified survival, security, peace and sustainability” for some 300 Indigenous tribes that still exist in Brazil. But Indigenous leaders said a ministry was needed to support their communities with the power to mobilize other ministries, and even the police and security forces to protect them.
Having the most protection from severe outcomes following Covid-19 infection is largely attributed to vaccination. But, the shot's effectiveness may be enhanced by physical activity, a new study found. They completed at least 150 minutes, or two and a half hours, of physical activity each week. Intensity: Their physical activity was moderate intensity, which means their heart rate was between 70% or 79% of their maximum heart rate while exercising. Participants within this group were 2.8 times less likely to develop severe outcomes from Covid-19 than people who rarely exercise.
Follow along for live coverage of the World Cup. Morgan had asked for "the honest, realistic total" of migrant workers who had died in the course of contributing to projects somehow related to the World Cup. The figure has not previously appeared in official reports from the Supreme Committee or FIFA, soccer's global body. There are about 2 million migrant workers in Qatar — an estimated 95 percent of the country’s total working population. Thousands of young men from south Asia worked on this and other World Cup projects.
Qatar official estimates World Cup worker deaths ‘between 400 and 500’DOHA, Qatar — A top Qatari official involved in the country’s World Cup organization has put the number of worker deaths for the tournament “between 400 and 500," a drastically higher number than any other previously offered by Doha. It also threatened to reinvigorate criticism by human rights groups over the toll of hosting the Middle East’s first World Cup for the migrant labor that built over $200 billion worth of stadiums, metro lines and new infrastructure needed for the tournament. That’s something that’s been discussed.”But that figure hasn’t been discussed publicly by Qatari officials previously. Reports from the Supreme Committee dating from 2014 through the end of 2021 only include the number of deaths of workers involved in building and refurbishing the stadiums now hosting the World Cup. In a later statement, the Supreme Committee said al-Thawadi was referring to “national statistics covering the period of 2014-2020 for all work-related fatalities (414) nationwide in Qatar, covering all sectors and nationalities.”

The New York Post depicted Donald Trump as a nursery-rhyme character for its Thursday cover. Many Republicans saw the midterm results as a stunning rebuke of Trump's supposed hold on the GOP. The cover was shared by New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman, a former New York Post reporter herself. At the time, The Post's editorial board wrote that Trump would bring back "explosive job creation, rising wages and general prosperity" prior to the pandemic. Piers Morgan, the controversial British journalist who joined The Post as a columnist in 2021, authored the cover story.

REUTERS/Henry NichollsLONDON, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Climate activist Greta Thunberg on Sunday called out next month's United Nations climate summit in Egypt for being "held in a tourist paradise in a country that violates many basic human rights." Speaking at the London Literature Festival at the Southbank Centre where she was promoting her new book, "The Climate Book", 19-year-old Thunberg dismissed the looming climate summit, known as COP27, as an opportunity for "people in power... to [use] greenwashing, lying and cheating." While Thunberg did attend protests in Glasgow last year for COP26, she said she won't attend COP27, scheduled to be held from Nov. 6 to Nov. 18 in Sharm El Sheikh. Thunberg rose to prominence in 2018 at the age of 15 by staging school strikes in her native Sweden, becoming the face of the youth activist climate movement.

HAVANA — Along with Iran, Syria and North Korea, Cuba is listed as a “state sponsor of terrorism” by the U.S. Department of State. Cuba has called the sponsor of terrorism designation "illegitimate and immoral," arguing that it deprives it of financing and credit sources. “‘Cuba is not a state sponsor of terrorism’ was a mantra from the moment I walked into the State Department to the moment I walked out,” he said. Throughout the 1980s, Cuba shared intelligence with, trained and apparently supplied weapons to revolutionary movements fighting military dictatorships in Central America. Cuba will once again be a “guarantor state.”The Biden administration has provided no evidence that Cuba sponsors terrorism.
“Mind the Gap: A clinical handbook of signs and symptoms in Black and Brown Skin,” was first published in 2020. Chidiebere IbeIbe says that a lack of illustrations of skin conditions in Black skin makes it hard for medical students to diagnose them.
