April 13 (Reuters) - Ireland's top rally driver Craig Breen has died after an accident in a pre-event test for the Croatian round of the world championship, his Hyundai team said in a statement on Thursday. The team gave no details of the accident just after midday local time but said co-driver James Fulton was unharmed. He was a world championship regular over the years, although rarely for a full season, and while not a winner he finished second in six rallies. Craig was a world class driver and a world class person," said Motorsport Ireland president Aiden Harper in a statement of condolences. Breen is the first fatality in the world championship since German junior co-driver Joerg Bastuck in the 2006 Rally of Catalunya.
A New York Knicks fan thinks of point guards the way a parched person thinks of water. Over much of Mike Breen ’s half-century association with the club, first as a Yonkers-bred die-hard and then as the play-by-play voice of the team’s radio and television affiliates, the Knicks have looked high and low for competency at the position, imagined how it might correct their misfortunes, and watched one homegrown player after another flourish elsewhere professionally. “We’re a city that prides itself on point guards,” Breen said. “Many of them never played for the Knicks, obviously.”

DuPont Inc. Chief Executive Edward Breen said that he has agreed with the materials maker’s board to stay in his job after his contract expires at the end of the year. Mr. Breen, who has led DuPont since returning to the company’s top job in February 2020, said investors have frequently asked whether he’ll retire when his contract is up, and that he and the board wanted to take that question off the table.
Feb 7 (Reuters) - DuPont de Nemours Inc (DD.N) on Tuesday projected results to improve in the second-half of the year from steadying consumer electronics demand, normalized inventory levels at customers and China's reopening. DuPont forecast annual sales of $12.30 billion to $12.90 billion, compared with estimates of $12.91 billion, according to Refinitiv IBES data. It expects full-year adjusted earnings between $3.50 and $4.00 per share, compared with estimates of $3.86. That's what Ryan Culver, Caroline Elston, and Lowell Bieber, the Indiana-based friends behind charcuterie subscription service Platterful, discovered when they teamed up to launch their venture last year — and made $40,000 in their first month. Culver and Bieber previously partnered on a health-and-wellness subscription box, which they successfully scaled and sold in September 2020. Entrepreneur sat down with the trio to learn how they built their meat-and-cheese side hustle — and continue to fuel its growth. Even though Culver and Bieber had subscription experience, the cofounders did have to contend with a new complication: cold shipping. [With cofounders] you have other people to lean on — if you're having a tough day, maybe someone else is having a good day.
Miriam Schulman started teaching art classes online 10 years ago. Schulman said a "starving artist" mentality holds creative entrepreneurs back. She's been an artist for two decades, and 10 years ago, she started teaching online art classes after one of her customers on Etsy inquired about it. So Schulman investigated how other people filled their online classes — and soon realized the importance of building an email list. "Not just the online classes — but I also [built the email list to] be able to sell more of my artwork."

Executives are aggressively paying down debt as higher interest rates increase the cost associated with having debt and businesses face the prospect of a recession. As a result, some are taking steps to rein in expenses and cut interest costs, while others are looking to put cash reserves to work as their bank deposits continue to generate minimal yields. Beauty paid an annual interest rate of 4.9% on the loan, according to Mandy Fields, the company’s chief financial officer. About two-thirds of the loan carried a 5% interest rate that was fixed through a swap, which was set to expire in 2025. The two transactions reduced KAR’s annual interest costs by $70 million, to an estimated $15 million a year, Mr. Loughmiller said.
First, it's important to pay attention to how people say what they're saying. "That's a telltale sign of indecision, and possibly lying," Donaldson said. "They're sitting on a couch or chair and they're speaking with you, then all of a sudden they're moving around," Donaldson said. What do you do if you think someone's lying to you? Donaldson suggested asking the person follow-up questions — and repeat questions — because if they're lying, it might be difficult to maintain consistency with their answers.
DuPont takes welcome M&A break

NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The seemingly eternal makeover at DuPont de Nemours (DD.N) has been forced into a welcome pause. The chemicals giant just scrapped its $5.2 billion acquisition of engineered materials manufacturer Rogers (ROG.N) after failing to secure clearance from Chinese authorities. Under boss Ed Breen, DuPont has undertaken a series of mergers and spinoffs. To pay for the deal, DuPont sold most of its so-called Mobility & Materials division to Celanese (CE.N) for $11 billion. The problem is that DuPont ditched old businesses at lower valuation multiples to fund purchases at much higher ones.

After years working for nonprofits, I am nearing age 60 without a pension or retirement savings. While financial help is only "supposed to" flow from parent to child in North America, that hasn't been the case for me. Or rather it would be, if I didn't have a daughter with whom I have an exceptional relationship. Much has been written lately about how only those millennials who can go to the bank of mom or dad will ever buy homes. As we've navigated our way through this mutual-aid arrangement, my daughter has persuaded me to stop doing the math.
HOBART, Australia — About 230 whales have been stranded on Tasmania’s west coast, just days after 14 sperm whales were found beached on an island off the southeastern coast. Griffith University marine scientist Olaf Meynecke said it’s unusual for sperm whales to wash ashore. The department said it is not unusual for sperm whales to be sighted in Tasmania. The pilot whale is notorious for stranding in mass numbers, for reasons that are not entirely understood. Two years ago, about 470 long-finned pilot whales were found beached on sandbars off Tasmania’s west coast in the largest mass-stranding on record in Australia.
