International bestselling author Barbara Taylor Bradford died peacefully at her home on Thursday at age 91, her publishing house confirmed. More than 91 million copies of her books have been sold to date, published in more than 40 languages and in 90 countries, according to HarperCollins UK. Bradford started writing at just 7 years old and sold her first short story to a magazine at age 10, HarperCollins UK said. She met and fell in love with her husband, Hollywood film and television producer Robert Bradford, in 1961. Bradford will be buried alongside her beloved husband Robert at Westchester Hills Cemetery, New York after a private funeral, HarperCollins UK confirmed.

The company behind a search for pilot Amelia Earhart's possible crash site in the Pacific said a sonar image believed to resemble her plane turned out to be the sea floor's normal shapes. Marine robotics firm Deep Sea Vision said earlier this month on its social media accounts that imagery from an underwater drone deployed during the expedition turned out to show a "natural rock formation." The company, based in Charleston, South Carolina, did not immediately respond to a request for more information about its conclusion. Deep Sea Vision's Instagram page also featured a post this month of a branded T-shirt with the sonar image that states: "We find rocks." Romeo told CNN that the company hopes to return to the area to continue the search for Earhart's last location.

(AP) – Fred Harris, a former US senator from Oklahoma, presidential hopeful and populist who championed Democratic Party reforms in the turbulent 1960s, died Saturday. “I think it’s worked wonderfully,” Harris recalled in 2004, when he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Boston. “It’s made the selection much more legitimate and democratic.”“The Democratic Party was not democratic, and many of the delegations were pretty much boss-controlled or -dominated. Harris ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1976, quitting after poor showings in early contests, including a fourth-place win in New Hampshire. We had my Senate seatmate Robert Kennedy killed and then we had this terrible convention,” Harris said in 1996.

The judge used an analogy to a video game company to explain her decision. The New York Times sued OpenAI in December, arguing that the company used its articles without permission to train ChatGPT. She then offered an analogy to explain her decision, comparing OpenAI to a video game manufacturer and the Times to a copyright holder. If a copyright holder sued a video game manufacturer for copyright infringement, the copyright holder might be required to produce documents relating to their interactions with that video game manufacturer, but the video game manufacturer would not be entitled to wide-ranging discovery concerning the copyright holder's employees' gaming history, statements about video games generally, or even their licensing of different content to other video game Manufacturers. The case is one among dozens of copyright cases filed against OpenAI, including by media organizations like the New York Daily News, the Denver Post, and The Intercept.

Donald Trump, in his trademark blue suit and red tie, strides across the frame in broad daylight, while Musk, in a black cap and T-shirt, cuts a gleefully diabolical figure. Whatever archetype actually describes Musk’s relationship to Trump — minion, sidekick, wartime consigliere, “first buddy” — there is no question that he radiates supervillain energy. In his own way, Trump does too. To observe that Trump’s opponents and Musk’s critics see them as villains would hardly count as much of an insight. Up there, where the snowpack of collective dreaming melts into the watersheds of commercial storytelling, the villains have been in the ascendant for quite a while.

This week, Vanity Fair published a bombshell article revealing that Cormac McCarthy, one of the country’s most celebrated and enigmatic novelists, had a relationship with a girl he met when he was 42 and she was 16, a foster child who felt so unsafe at home she often carried a gun and used the pool area at the motel where he was staying to shower. The revelations in the article stunned many fans of the famously inscrutable author, but did not come as a surprise to close friends of McCarthy’s or the tight-knit community of scholars who have studied his life and work. McCarthy’s relationship with Augusta Britt lasted nearly until his death in 2023, and came up in his letters over the years. Dianne C. Luce, who has written several books about McCarthy, said she and another McCarthy scholar, Edwin T. Arnold, learned about McCarthy’s relationship with Britt around 40 years ago, during an interview with a friend of McCarthy’s. Over the years, she saw the relationship come up in the author’s letters to his literary friends, among them Robert Coles, Guy Davenport and Mark Morrow.
