The Georgia state election board on Friday voted 3-2 to require counties to hand-count ballots cast on Election Day, a move that could drastically lengthen the amount of time to tally results in a critical battleground state. Number one is the actual counting of the number of ballots that you have at the precinct. Georgia's rule only requires election workers to count the number of ballots — not every votes on the ballot — but election officials are still worried about the impact. In August, the same Georgia board members passed other new rules that would allow county election board members to conduct “reasonable” inquiries before they certify results. Speaking of the trio of board members who voted for them at a rally last month, Trump said, “They’re on fire.

Back in April, "A Bar Song" made history when it replaced Beyoncé's "Texas Hold 'Em" atop Billboard's Hot Country Songs. "Cowboy Carter" made chart history and inspired thoughtful conversations about systemic racism in the music industry. (As Billboard reported, Beyoncé's team did not need to submit "Cowboy Carter" in order for the album to be eligible. And that project changed a lot of people's lives, mine included," Shaboozey said of "Cowboy Carter." Read previewThe US is moving toward a recession, as the economy is feeling the comedown after trillions of "unproductive" cash was pumped in during the pandemic, according to former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. AdvertisementBut most of the stimulus cash wasn't deployed productively, Ross said, pointing to Americans who "immediately spent" their checks in a wild shopping spree. Related storiesStrength in the labor market was also partly distorted by stimulus cash, he suggested. Hiring has steadily slowed over the past year, with the unemployment rate triggering one long-running recession indicator with a perfect track record. Most economists still agree that the economy remains on solid footing, given the rapid pace of growth and historically low unemployment rate.

Alan Shaw, President and CEO, Norfolk Southern at the NYSE, June 7, 2022. Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw is out effective immediately after the board determined he engaged in a consensual relationship with chief legal officer Nabanita Nag, the company announced Wednesday. The company announced Nag would be terminated as well, based on the board's preliminary investigation. "I am honored to take on this role and lead Norfolk Southern," George said in a press release. George has served as Norfolk Southern's CFO for nearly five years and was integral to the company's efforts to stave off activist investor Ancora.

Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw testifies at a hearing before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on protecting public health and the environment in the wake of the Norfolk Southern train derailment and chemical release in East Palestine, Ohio in Washington, D.C., the United States, March 9, 2023. The board's focus on that other executive, chief legal officer Nabanita Nag, has not previously been detailed. Norfolk Southern said it won't comment until the conclusion of the probe. The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that Shaw was expected to resign, citing people familiar with the matter. The European private equity firm had been eyeing the late-stage startup for five years, impressed by its traction and focus on customer success. The speed of the deal, and the flashy multiple, illustrate how private equity funds are able to swallow startups more often lately. But in the face of rising inflation and interest rates, software customers from tech startups to mom-and-pop shops trimmed their budgets. Andreessen Horowitz plans to invest in the private equity asset class through its family office division. Kobayashi Pharmaceutical is a Japan-based pharmaceuticals and consumer products company. The jobs report said the US economy added 114,000 jobs in July, far fewer than the 176,000 jobs that economists expected. The weakness of the jobs report tipped the worry scale and sent markets into meltdown mode. Outside the July jobs report, there were plenty of signs the labor market was cooling off. If that seems confusing, here's the only thing you really need to know: The July jobs report triggered the Sahm rule. Activist investor Starboard Value has been engaging with the board of Autodesk , continuing its push to improve the company's operations and financial performance, according to a presentation viewed by CNBC. Starboard wants Autodesk's board to reassess whether CEO Andrew Anagnost, who has helmed the software maker for seven years, is the right person to lead the company forward, according to the presentation. The activist investor has shared the presentation's findings with Autodesk's board in recent weeks, after disclosing a $500 million stake in the company earlier this year. Starboard is also pushing for cost cuts and a realigned executive compensation plan, all of which it believes can drive margin improvement of up to 1,000 basis points. But Starboard has shown no signs of relenting, continuing to press the company and shareholders for change.

According to the New York Federal Reserve, which uses the 10-year/three-month curve, a recession should happen about 12 months later. The inversion is not aloneMaking the situation even more complicated is that the yield curve isn't the only indicator showing reason for caution about how long the post-Covid recovery can last. But the rate dynamics have helped companies escape what usually happens in an inverted curve. With an inverted curve hitting their net interest margins, banks may opt to lend less, causing a pullback in consumer spending that can lead to recession. This could provide something of a self-fulfilling prophecy for the yield curve.

Activist Commentary: Starboard is a very successful activist investor and has extensive experience helping companies focus on operational efficiency and margin improvement. On July 15, Starboard sent a letter to Match highlighting various opportunities to improve operations, financial results and capital allocation. Match's EBITDA margin of 36% may be high for an average company, but it's low for a company like Match. Starboard thinks that this is a highly valuable asset that may be well-suited to operate as a private company. Starboard is not the first activist to launch a public campaign at Match.

With Corner Post, Entin said, the Supreme Court created a statute of limitations that, from the standpoint of federal agencies, never really expires. But the Court didn't stop at giving itself the reins to interpret regulations that federal agencies are beholden to. In the Trump case, the Supreme Court offered Trump broad immunity for some of his acts concerning his January 6 election interference case.
