July 3 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's move to temporarily cap how many posts Twitter users can read on the social media site could undermine efforts by the company's new Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino to attract advertisers, marketing industry professionals said. Under the new cap, unverified accounts were initially limited to 600 posts a day with new unverified accounts limited to 300. Verified accounts could read 6,000 posts a day, Musk said in a post on the site. Hours later, he said the cap was raised to 10,000 posts per day for verified users, 1,000 per day for unverified and 500 posts per day for new unverified users. Kai-Cheng Yang, researcher at Indiana University in Bloomington, said that the limits appeared to be effective in blocking third parties, including search engines, from scraping Twitter data like before.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has won re-election after a contested vote. A day before the election, Twitter blocked posts by Erdogan critics from being viewed in the country. Erdogan's increasingly authoritarian rule now extends into its third decade. "We will continue to be at the forefront of this struggle until real democracy comes to our country," Kilicdaroglu said in Ankara. He added that the people have shown their will "to change an authoritarian government despite all the pressures."

Catalent, one of the top contract manufacturers for pharmaceutical companies, said a drop in revenue from COVID vaccine manufacturing had coincided with higher-than-expected costs and production challenges at its facilities in Indiana and in Brussels. Karen Cheng, a senior at the university and the president of the school’s Asian American Association, noted a similar sense of fear. As an Asian American woman, she said, public safety concerns predate the tragedy. But the community is also flanked by some areas with white supremacist activity, something many Asian American students are aware of, Cheng said.
