CNN —The massive offshore wind turbine blade that broke and spread fiberglass and foam debris across Nantucket beaches this week was one of several recent failures of blades made by GE Vernova – a top US wind turbine manufacturer. Several GE Vernova blades have broken on onshore and offshore turbines in Germany, Sweden, Lithuania and the United Kingdom in recent years. Broken wind turbines are “highly unusual and rare,” a GE Vernova representative told Nantucket residents and officials on Wednesday. WBZTown of Nantucket CurrentLast year, three GE Vernova blades broke at the Alfstedt-Ebersdorf onshore wind farm in Germany. The total number of broken turbine blades has been relatively low compared to the large number of blades manufactured each year.

As for a name for this latest prospective double feature, perhaps presciently, “Gladiator II” star Paul Mescal thought “Glicked” (pronounced glick-id) was the most suitable portmanteau back in July. The critical and commercial track records for the directors behind “Gladiator II” and “Wicked” are less consistent, Nunan said, which could make a difference in the cultural and box-office impact they have. Universal PicturesDirectors aside, as with “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” before them, “Gladiator II” and “Wicked” both have star power in spades. It's a battle of the internet boyfriends in "Gladiator II." There may be no better place to see evidence of Britain’s shift to cleaner energy than a sleek industrial complex on the Humber estuary outside Hull, a faded port city. On a July morning, workers in a brightly lit building were preparing molds for fiberglass wind turbine blades longer than football fields. Outside on the docks, squat six-wheeled vehicles gingerly maneuvered a blade weighing 50 metric tons for loading onto a ship that would take it to Scotland for installation. The factory, which is operated by Siemens Gamesa, a unit of the German company Siemens Energy, began producing the massive blades in 2016. The factory is a case study for how the new British government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whose Labour Party delivered a decisive election victory last week, hopes to use investment in clean energy to bolster stagnant economic growth.

But there's no denying that a large number of people, mostly women, found Joe Arden's voice to be exceedingly hot: smooth, insistent, husky, occasionally dropping to a seductive growl. Arden's voice made him one of the most popular romance audiobook narrators of his generation. Last year, a promising new romance author reached out to Blue Nose Audio and received a reply from Joe Arden. "My working name of 'Joe Arden,' has always been just that, a professional persona that labeled my career," he added. For good measure, they dug up Cronin's abandoned trademark application for the Joe Arden moniker, first filed in 2020.

Waymo's autonomous driver is pretty damn smart, and aside from a few hesitations, the robotaxi offers a smooth, comfortable experience with competitive pricing against other ride-hailing apps. Lloyd Lee/Business InsiderWaymo's 5th generation autonomous driver could be best described as a safe but not an annoyingly cautious driver. It did the same thing to give itself more room when it detected a large parked bucket truck slightly in Waymo's lane. The expectation I had that the Waymo driver would be stiff, as the term "robot taxi" might suggest, was dispelled throughout the rides. The spokesperson said it's also possible I failed to notice something the Waymo car picked up.

As legend has it, a sword from God given to Roland, an 8th century military leader under Charlemagne, was so powerful that Roland’s last mission was to destroy it. When the blade, called Durandal, proved indestructible, Roland threw it as far as he could, and it sailed over 100 miles before slicing through the side of a rock face in the medieval French village of Rocamadour. That sword, as the story goes, sat wedged in the stone for nearly 1,300 years, and it became a landmark and tourist attraction in Rocamadour, a small village in southwestern France, about 110 miles east of Bordeaux. So residents and officials there were stunned to discover late last month that the blade had vanished, according to La Dépêche du Midi, a French newspaper. An officer with France’s national police force in Cahors, a town 30 miles southwest of Rocamadour, said that the sword disappeared sometime after nightfall on June 21, and that the authorities opened an investigation after a passerby reported the next morning that it was missing.

The finger-saving technology has been likened to airbags in cars — a straightforward but ingenious safety solution — but many of Gluesenkamp Perez’s friends didn’t see it that way. They were worried that a government mandate would increase the cost of a new table saw by hundreds of dollars, while also giving SawStop, the company that developed the technology, an effective monopoly. Too often, she believes, policymakers are not only disrespectful to people who work with their hands, but also ignorant of the reality of their day-to-day lives. In April, she introduced legislation that would prohibit the commission from implementing the rule until five years after SawStop’s patent expires. (SawStop’s chief executive, Matt Howard, said that the company has promised not to enforce its patent once the rule is implemented.)

Morgan Stanley has resumed coverage of Hong Kong-listed Geely with an overweight rating on expectations the Chinese automaker can weather macro and industry uncertainties. "We see Geely as a beneficiary of market consolidation," Morgan Stanley Asia equity analyst Tim Hsiao and a team said in a June 25 report that resumed coverage of the stock. Hangzhou-based Geely entered China's auto industry in 1997 and is known for acquiring Volvo in 2010. But the company raised the share of its new energy vehicles to 32% so far this year, higher than peers such as Great Wall Motor, for which the share is 23%, the Morgan Stanley analysts pointed out on Tuesday. The Morgan Stanley analysts on Tuesday set a price target of HK$11.20 ($1.43), about 27% above where shares closed Friday.

For nearly three hours on Tuesday, Donald J. Trump’s lawyer did his level best to persuade the jury to acquit his client, wielding a scalpel to attack nearly every strand of the criminal case against the former president. Rather than using a fine blade, he swung a sledgehammer. The prosecutor, Joshua Steinglass, wove together witness testimony and documents to drive home the key points of the weekslong case, the first criminal trial of an American president. Facing the judge’s 8 p.m. deadline, Mr. Steinglass raced to the wire, stopping only to take a gulp of water as the sky darkened outside the towering courtroom windows. “Everything Mr. Trump and his cohorts did in this case was cloaked in lies,” Mr. Steinglass said as the jurors, who had been glued to most of his presentation, began to fidget in their seats.
