CNN —Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have laid out a broad array of ideas aimed at making life more affordable and strengthening the economy, which rank at the top of voters’ concerns. Both Trump and Harris have rolled out pricey provisions without specifying how they would cover the cost. Though his campaign hasn’t released details on the proposal, Trump has indicated that he would eliminate both federal income taxes and payroll taxes, which fund Social Security and Medicare. Around half of beneficiaries – mainly those with higher incomes – pay federal income tax on their Social Security payments. Harris’ plan would also accelerate the speed of Medicare’s drug price negotiations so that the costs of more medications come down faster.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk defended the legality of his super PAC’s $1 million daily giveaway to registered voters in swing states, days after the Justice Department sent a letter warning that the lottery-style contest might be unlawful. The PAC is also offering $100 to Pennsylvania registered voters who sign the petition. Musk’s daily drawing for $1 million is open to registered voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Musk took a harsher tone toward the Justice Department on two other subjects during the online town hall. He attacked the criminal prosecutions of Trump, saying they were for “political reasons,” and he criticized the Justice Department for intervening in a lawsuit in Virginia related to immigration and that state’s voter rolls.

SHAPIRO: I’m not sure I would agree with the characterization. I’m sure you saw the Department of Justice letter yesterday. And that’s OK, folks can express their opinions, and I’m sure he’ll continue to do that. SHAPIRO: I think he is far more unstable and erratic than he was eight years ago.

The Justice Department declined to comment, and the super PAC’s treasurer did not immediately reply to a voicemail message requesting comment. On Monday, a group of ex-prosecutors and other former government officials sent a letter to the Justice Department requesting an investigation. Legal experts have told NBC News that they believe Musk’s contest falls into a legal gray area and could violate election law, but not necessarily. So far, several of the winners have appeared in short videos for America PAC talking about their support for former President Donald Trump. Billionaire Elon Musk promised on Saturday to give away $1 million each day until November's election to someone who signs his online petition supporting the U.S. Constitution. And he wasted no time, awarding a $1 million check to an attendee of his event in Pennsylvania aimed at rallying supporters behind Republican Donald Trump. Musk started America PAC, a political action organization he founded in support of Trump's presidential campaign. The petition Musk is asking people to sign reads: "The First and Second Amendments guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. Trump in turn has said if elected he would appoint Musk to head a government efficiency commission.

“We want to try to get over a million, maybe 2 million voters in the battleground states to sign the petition in support of the First and Second Amendment. … We are going to be awarding $1 million randomly to people who have signed the petition, every day, from now until the election,” Musk said at a campaign event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. “This is a one-time ask,” Musk told the crowd shortly after announcing the $1 million prize. “When you start limiting prizes or giveaways to only registered voters or only people who have voted, that’s where bribery concerns arise,” said Derek Muller, an election law expert who teaches at Notre Dame Law School. Regardless of the long odds of a Musk prosecution, other respected election law experts strongly condemned the billionaire’s behavior.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk said Friday that all voting should be “in person,” contradicting his own history of voting by mail and the efforts of his pro-Trump super PAC to get others to vote by mail, too. His super PAC, America PAC, is also promoting mail-in and absentee ballots this year. In mailers and on a website that links to absentee ballot request forms, the super PAC calls absentee voting a secure way for people to support Trump in the Nov. 5 election. Musk has given the super PAC nearly $75 million. But Musk’s opposition to mail-in and absentee voting is longstanding, and he has repeatedly declined to resolve his stated opposition with his own practice.

Four people involved in the group's outreach told Reuters that managers warned canvassers they are missing targets and needed to raise the number of would-be voters they contact. Another person briefed on the matter said America PAC was struggling to find sufficient people to conduct audits in other states. Musk, ranked by Forbes as the world's richest person, so far has supplied at least $75 million to America PAC, according to federal disclosures, making the group a crucial part of Trump's bid to regain the White House. In Nevada, it isn't clear whether Young's audit has concluded, reached any findings or prompted any change in America PAC's outreach. America PAC recently updated its website to prominently display advertisements seeking canvassers.

Human life has no price and is not a commodity.”People demonstrate near Italy's Senate this week to oppose the country's new legislation. Francis has shifted the church’s approach on welcoming LGBTQ people, but has maintained a strong line opposing both abortion and surrogacy. The new Italian law does not differentiate between same-sex and heterosexual couples, nor between altruistic or paid surrogacy, but it will disproportionately affect the LGBTQ community, advocates fear. “Law or no law, same-sex families exist and will continue to exist. LGBTQ activists who protested outside the Senate on Wednesday said that heterosexual couples make up 90% of all surrogacies.

At a town hall hosted at a high school outside Philadelphia, Musk referred to the false conspiracy theory that Dominion Voting Systems was part of a plot to rig U.S. elections in recent years. There’s always this question of, say, the Dominion voting machines. Fact: Hand counts and audits of such paper ballots have repeatedly proven that Dominion machines produce accurate results. Studies and investigations have found that there’s no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the U.S. When voter fraud has occurred, prosecutors have successfully brought cases against perpetrators including in a highly publicized fraud scheme in North Carolina.

Deep-pocketed Republicans donors also tried to close the gap by boosting a GOP super PAC working to seize the Senate majority. America PAC has taken on a critical supporting role for the Trump campaign, according to its independent expenditure filings, which cover some spending beyond September 30. Another leading pro-Trump super PAC, Restoration PAC, also reported a huge haul from a single major donor. One month to Election Day. Here’s what to watch

The (Donald) Trump campaign, on the other hand, is looking to the Sun Belt. Instead of knocking on doors in key states, Trump’s allies are using funding from tech billionaire Elon Musk to do some nontraditional things. But some things are still going to be much more expensive on Election Day than they were when Trump was president. It’s one month to Election Day, but that’s a little bit of a misnomer. No matter what happens with the 2024 election, Trump is unlikely to accept the results if Harris wins.

Musk calls for people to register to vote

CNN —In his first appearance with Donald Trump on the campaign trail, billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday called on people to register to vote as he cast Democrats as a threat to democracy. “Register to vote, OK? Drag them to register to vote. There’s only two days left to register to vote in Georgia and Arizona. And then make sure they actually do vote,” Musk said at the former president’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

And it’s a playbook that former President Donald Trump’s campaign has tossed aside. It’s a gamble, Trump’s campaign internally acknowledges, but one that they insist is built on data they have collected over nearly a decade and tested for the past six months. Days later, the Michigan state party chairman also plugged 10xVotes when he rolled into Traverse City, Michigan, alongside Trump running mate JD Vance. But rather than courting those voters, Trump’s campaign is in search of new ones. Trump’s campaign has also tried to seize on discord within the Democratic coalition.

The Harris campaign also dramatically outspent the Trump campaign in August, burning through about $174 million. By comparison, Trump’s campaign spent just $61 million last month, with the lion’s share – more than $47 million – going toward media buys. The Trump and Harris campaigns are aligned with an array of committees that file disclosure reports on a separate schedule. The Trump campaign, as CNN has previously reported, has opted to outsource much of its ground game operation to outside organizations. The super PAC spent more than $77 million in August, including nearly $62 million on independent expenditures to benefit the vice president’s campaign.

Some Brazilian users reconnected with X on Wednesday despite the Supreme Court's recent nationwide ban, the result of the social network apparently changing the way its servers are accessed. That rendered X effectively inaccessible in the country until Wednesday, with AP journalists among those who had access. It acts as a proxy between users and X's servers, filtering traffic and preventing the original Internet Protocol (IP) address from being recognized, Diogenes told The Associated Press. Former president Jair Bolsonaro celebrated the return of the social network.
