Starbucks will stop surcharges on non-dairy milk ahead of the holidays. AdvertisementStarbucks is giving almond milk lovers and oat milk enthusiasts a holiday gift this year. The coffee chain will stop charging extra for non-dairy milk substitutions next month, CEO Brian Niccol said during a Wednesday earnings call. Substituting non-dairy milk is the second-most popular customization, Niccol said, after an extra shot of espresso. Extra costs for non-dairy milk can reach up to 80 cents per order in certain markets, CNBC reported.

Despite a difficult quarter, McDonald’s looks resilient in the face of various pressures, analysts say — something the company shares with U.S. consumers overall. “The spotlight is always on McDonald’s because it’s so big” and something of a “bellwether,” she said. That spurred former President Donald Trump to sling fries this month at a Philadelphia-area McDonald’s in a photo op. Like many major brands, McDonald’s raked in big profits as the economy reopened from the pandemic. “The thing that McDonald’s had struggled with, and why I think we’re seeing kind of an inflection point, is a value proposition,” Senatore said.

The question is how worried should people be about these endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), such as phthalates, BPA or bisphenol A, and brominated flame retardants? Endocrine-disrupting chemicals are not produced by the human body but influence the way your hormones function, Bloom said. CNN reached out to the National Pest Management Association and the Personal Care Products Council for comment. Gradually replacing personal care products one at a time as you use up individual products is a great place to start, she said. “But personal care products is one thing where I think folks have a lot of autonomy and what they’re purchasing within reason.”

New York CNN —Starbucks is eliminating its controversial olive oil-infused drinks from the menu, less than a year after they made their nationwide debut. “Rather than a flavor or a product, it’s really a platform.”Oleato was the brainchild of former CEO Howard Schultz, who got the idea after meeting with an olive oil producer who introduced him to the practice of consuming a tablespoon of olive oil each day. A pair of reviewers posted a video titled “We Tried Starbucks Olive Oil Coffee Drinks and Seriously Regret It.” Others had mixed feelings , but concluded that the drinks seem more like a stunt — something worth trying but not necessarily worth coming back for. The Oleato menu consists of two drinks: an oat milk latte infused with the extra virgin olive oil; and a toffee nut iced shaken espresso with golden foam, which is vanilla sweet cream infused with extra virgin olive oil into a cold foam. Schultz was effusive about the launch, and it was one of his most high-profile projects before leaving his position.

China News Service | China News Service | Getty ImagesBEIJING — Chinese IPOs in the U.S. and Hong Kong are set to increase next year, analysts said, as some high-profile listings outside the mainland this year raise investor optimism over profitable exits. Last week, Horizon Robotics — a Chinese artificial intelligence and auto chip developer — and state-owned bottled water company CR Beverage went public in Hong Kong. The firm noted that Chinese delivery giant SF Express is planning for a Hong Kong IPO next month, while Chinese automaker Chery aims for one next year. Still, the overall pace of Hong Kong IPOs this year is slightly slower than expected, George Chan, global IPO leader at EY, told CNBC in an interview earlier this month. Hong Kong, then New York

To distinguish this type of turbid Japanese alcohol from that of the ubiquitous and transparent sake, there are two distinct if slightly misleading categories: seishu (清酒), or clear sake, and doburoku (濁酒). However, when making doburoku, they are all simultaneously placed in with the yeast starter, causing the resulting mixture to be comparatively overflowing with sugars. For nearly as long as rice has been cultivated in Japan, doburoku has existed. In essence, all doburoku made from then on came to be called mitsuzoushu (密造酒), “secretly produced alcohol,” or moonshine. The state of doburoku todayOpened in 2015, Tokyo’s Sake Hotaru was the first legal spot to offer doburoku in Japan’s capital.

New York CNN —Even for a brand as gargantuan as McDonald’s, the last few months have been… a lot. The timing of the outbreak is especially challenging for McDonald’s as it has been trying to win back customers who’ve been put off by higher prices. Over the summer McDonald’s did an about face to try to win people back. “It had been a pretty strong quarter.”And absent the E. coli outbreak, Tuesday’s earnings call might have been all about the value menu and the Crocs. The length and severity of the outbreak is now a wild card for analysts as they assess McDonald’s financial future.

Pulque is the oldest ancestor of two of Mexico's most popular alcoholic drinks, tequila and mezcal. It's not nearly as popular as the other two, but that wasn't always the case. In the late 1800s, pulque was Mexico's most-consumed alcoholic drink. But untrue rumors that it was fermented with feces, its reputation as a drink for the poor, and competition from the beer industry nearly made pulque completely disappear. So can pulque become a global hit like tequila and mezcal?

AdvertisementFrom former first lady Michelle Obama to supermodel Bella Hadid, celebrities are piling into the soda business. Poppi and Olipop, two of the most popular prebiotic soda brands, have exploded in popularity since 2020. Just as social media helped celebrity makeup lines sell, Falorni said their drink brands have the same potential. When it comes to celebrity beauty and wellness brands, Contois said people usually hope there's a "magical elixir" that will elevate their own life. Famous booze-free beverage founders could also follow the well-trodden path of celebs creating alcoholic drink brands and then selling them for a lot of cash.

The campaign also spent a little more than $43,000 on Ubers since August 2022. D’Esposito campaign spokesman Matt Capp called the five-figure Uber charge “a filing error which will be corrected and does not represent an Uber invoice.”In one eyebrow-raising section of the filings, the campaign spent nearly $600 for a hostel in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Memorial Day this year. But there is no clear connection between much of the D’Esposito campaign’s spending at those establishments and official campaign fundraising events. Santos was expelled from Congress in December of last year and recently pled guilty to aggravated identity theft and wire fraud charges stemming from, among other things, misusing campaign funds during his 2022 midterm campaign. The FEC, an agency charged with enforcing campaign finance laws, keeps records of donor contributions and spending by campaigns and outside political groups.

The Twrl founders say they hope the initiative they took moves those conversations forward and educates some people along the way. Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey said the company doesn't expect an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's to hurt the beverage company's sales. McDonald's is Coke's largest restaurant customer, and the two companies' symbiotic relationship has existed for nearly seven decades. On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that it has linked an E. coli outbreak in 10 states to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers. Both ingredients are unique to the Quarter Pounder burgers, although cooking the patty at the correct internal temperature should kill the bacteria. The outbreak comes as consumers broadly have been spending less at restaurants, hurting both McDonald's and Coke.

Coca-Cola on Wednesday reported quarterly earnings and revenue that topped analysts' expectations, thanks to a boost from higher prices that offset sluggish demand. Unit case volume fell 1% in the quarter, driven by weakening demand in some international markets. Consumer companies, including Coke, have reported in recent months that customers are more price sensitive, leading to sluggish demand for its products as prices remain high. Pepsi said volume for its North American beverage business fell 3% in its third quarter, fueled by weakening demand for energy drinks. Coke is projecting a low-single-digit headwind for comparable revenue and a mid-single-digit headwind for earnings per share.

Plus, disaster jobless benefits are available to many types of workers who don’t qualify for state unemployment insurance, such as gig workers, farmers and the self-employed.
