CNN —One major lesson from Vice President Kamala Harris’ sudden ascension to be the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is that running mates matter. It’s a point not lost on some Republicans who are second-guessing Trump’s selection of Vance and Democrats who are anticipating Harris’ pick any day. Harris’ pick could come within days, according to CNN’s MJ Lee and Jeff Zeleny, who write that the pool of candidates has shrunk by one. Biden went on to pick Harris, the first woman of color to be on a national party’s presidential ticket. In 2016, Trump picked then-Indiana Gov.

Read previewNearly two weeks after former President Donald Trump selected JD Vance to be his running mate, it's safe to say the Ohio senator is struggling. His polling is the worst of any non-incumbent vice presidential nominee in decades. Related storiesThat lack of familiarity is a key reason that the memes about Vance having sex with a couch have taken off. By Thursday, social media was awash with memes riffing on the notion that Trump's vice presidential nominee had once fornicated with a couch. In Vance's case, the meme seems to be an ironic stand-in for other issues that voters may have with the Ohio senator, even if they know he probably didn't have sex with a couch.

CNN —First lady Jill Biden watched on Wednesday night as President Joe Biden told the American people it was time to “pass the torch” on his political career. Then she got on a plane, flying nearly 4,000 miles to Paris, where another torch was being passed. Jill Biden is arriving in Paris at a monumental time for her husband’s presidency. That unity will be on display at the Olympic Games, a rare moment in intensely polarized times. In one tangible signal of how plans for the Paris trip changed since the president’s decision to drop his reelection bid, Jill Biden had been scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Americans living abroad in Paris.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday told investors how a possible Kamala Harris administration might affect the market, suggesting her policies would be better for megacaps and international outfits. "If you own many stocks of international companies and you want to vote your portfolio, Harris is more likely to help than hurt. After President Joe Biden bowed out of the 2024 race, he backed Vice President Harris for the Democratic nomination. According to Cramer, Biden seemed to hold the belief that "big business is bad business," but Harris may have a "more nuanced approach." Cramer said he could see Harris having close communication with Big Tech leaders.

And yet one of the men, former President Donald Trump, 78, has been able to remake the Republican Party around his own divisive persona. Trump, between now and then, will pick a vice president from a short list of people who have previously criticized him but are now all in. Some of this stems from the belief that AI benefits workers with greater task-based responsibilities versus the broader job responsibilities of higher-level workers (with many experts saying AI is nearly at the level of a good intern). Still, 30% of senior-level employees fear they'll be fired for lacking AI skills, according to a recent report from online tutoring company Preply. Experienced employees can master AI insightsDespite the general stereotype that older workers (who often make up the senior-level echelon) have a harder time adapting to new technology, Preston recognizes that these are the workers for whom AI has unique advantages. "It would be easy to write off older workers and say this is just going to be too hard for them, they're not going to adapt," Preston said. "Let's lean into the value of AI to help leverage the jobs of the future for older workers, rather than assuming that for some reason, it's going to leave them behind."
