RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks are broken offensively in a way that could not have been anticipated during training camp or even a couple of months ago. He came as close as he ever does to calling out a member of his coaching staff with his comments about Seattle’s offense on Friday. Seattle’s offense was overmatched in its blowout loss to Baltimore and didn’t have counters after the opening drive last week against the Rams. Cornerback Riq Woolen should start against Dallas after being benched against San Francisco due to a shoulder issue. Then the Seahawks have a trip to San Francisco and a home game against Philadelphia.

Earlier this year, the project received $25 million from the infrastructure law. The Susquehanna River Bridge in Maryland and the Connecticut River Bridge – both of which are more than 100 years old – will also be replaced. The infrastructure law allocated $22 billion to Amtrak directly, some of which is being used to replace its fleet of more than 1,000 railcars and locomotives.

In New York City, for example, the Bard Early College branches in Manhattan and Queens are sterling examples. For example, the Bard Early College programs focus on giving this opportunity to underprivileged kids by encouraging them to apply. Eighty-six percent of Bard Early College students go on to get B.A.s within six years, as opposed to a national average of 63 percent of college students who graduate. However, early college programs should play a larger role in those conversations, given the high rates at which their students graduate from college. Also, early college students have to pay for only two years of college.

Opinion | How the Underground Railroad Got Its Name
  + stars: | 2023-09-11 | by ( Scott Shane | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
Born into slavery outside Washington, D.C., in 1801, he had largely educated himself and bought his own freedom 11 years before. And one day early that August he took up his pen and made literary history, becoming the first to use a phrase that would resound through the subsequent decades of slavery and to the present day: underground railroad. In researching a book about Mr. Smallwood, likely the most fascinating and important African American activist and writer you’ve never heard of, I stumbled upon the solution to an old historical mystery: Where did the Underground Railroad get its name? The answer: from Mr. Smallwood’s newspaper dispatches, overlooked until recently in aging newsprint stacked in a Boston Public Library warehouse. As I read through these extraordinary letters, a rare real-time account of escapes and a lost masterpiece of satire, I came across the first use of “underground railroad” from the Aug. 10, 1842, edition of Tocsin of Liberty, an abolitionist newspaper published in Albany.

Gen Z’s Housing Anguish

For years, we’ve been told that what you pay for housing shouldn’t exceed 30 percent of your monthly income. I knew that sticking to that maxim was getting harder for many people because housing costs have soared in the past few years, which I’ve written about as a reporter for The Times’s Real Estate section. Not very, especially for many Gen Z adults who have recently moved into their first homes and are early in their careers. My colleague Karen Hanley and I spoke with dozens of them across the country for a story that recently published about how they’re living with high housing costs. Most said they couldn’t imagine a future in which they owned a home; some even laughed at the prospect.

Smaller biotech companies have been struggling to finance drug development programs and that has hampered their ability to deliver on contract research services for over a year. The company had nearly 2,500 employees as of Dec.31, according to its regulatory filing. An autopsy and court records show that Williams, 54, died of a drug overdose and was found in his Brooklyn apartment on Sept. 6, 2021. Fentanyl was associated with 70,600 of the drug overdoses in the U.S. in 2021, according to the National Institutes of Health. Among the real-life struggles he tapped were his bouts with drug addiction, which he brought to his best known role for "The Wire." WASHINGTON, July 4 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden on Tuesday said gun violence was tearing apart U.S. communities after mass shootings in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Fort Worth claimed the lives of at least 10 people ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. Much more action is needed to "address the epidemic of gun violence that is tearing our communities apart," Biden said in a statement released by the White House. Deadly mass shootings tend reignite the heated debate over gun control in the United States. The United States has been struggling with a large number of mass shootings and incidents of gun violence this year. There have been over 340 mass shootings so far in 2023 in the country, according to data collected by the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter.

The rise of political nepo babies

Second, if you are a nepo baby in your first term, you will continue to be counted as a nepo baby in each subsequent term. Thus, Pelosi has been counted as a nepo baby each year since she was first elected in 1987. It's possible that this trend is the result of the Democratic party electing more nepo baby incumbents like Pelosi. Thus, it's not surprising that the Democratic Party does not just have more incumbent nepo babies but also more first-time nepo babies. On top of that, we continue to see that independent of party the Senate elects more nepo babies than the House.

In videos from a block party on Saturday night, hundreds of teenagers and young adults are seen dancing in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Baltimore and singing along to the lyrics of local rappers. As they shout and move their hands through the air, many hold up phones to record the revelry on a hot summer night. A barrage of gunfire had torn through the Brooklyn Day party in South Baltimore, leaving two young people dead and 28 more people wounded. Even for a city plagued by gun violence in recent years, the number of victims was staggering, representing more people than would sit in an average high school classroom. Over the past decade, only 10 other shootings in the United States have resulted in so many gunshot victims, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a research group, though many mass shootings have taken more lives.

Separately, state agencies said late Thursday that millions of people in Louisiana and Oregon had their data compromised in a security breach. The cyberattack has targeted federal and state agencies. No other federal agencies have confirmed being impacted. And on Thursday, state agencies said 3.5 million Oregonians with driver’s licenses or state ID cards had been impacted by a breach as well as anyone with that documentation in Louisiana. But much of the responsibility now lies on businesses and federal agencies rather than individuals, according to Cattanach.

June 16 (Reuters) - Police in Minneapolis routinely use excessive force and discriminate against Black and Native American people, the U.S. Justice Department said on Friday after a two-year investigation prompted by the police killing of George Floyd. The city has agreed to what will likely be years of federal oversight as it works to reform the Minneapolis Police Department, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in announcing the findings. "We found that the Minneapolis Police Department routinely uses excessive force, often when no force is necessary, including unjust deadly force and unreasonable use of Tasers," Garland said at a press conference at the city's federal courthouse. Frey and other Minneapolis officials will negotiate an agreement with the Justice Department known as a consent decree in which a federal judge will oversee the city's progress in reforming the police department. The department has negotiated similar federal oversight agreements in other cities, including Ferguson in Missouri, Baltimore and Cleveland.

CNN —“Several” US federal government agencies have been hit in a global cyberattack that exploits a vulnerability in widely used software. A CISA spokesperson had no comment when CNN asked who carried out the hack of federal agencies and how many have been affected. But the news adds to a growing tally of victims of a sprawling hacking campaign that began two weeks ago and has hit major US universities and state governments. As of Thursday morning, the dark website did not list any US federal agencies. Progress, the US firm that owns the MOVEit software, has also urged victims to update their software packages and has issued security advice.
