Brent and WTI earlier hit lows last registered in December 2021, with WTI sinking below $65 a barrel. After the deal was announced, The U.S. Federal Reserve, European Central Bank and other major central banks pledged to enhance market liquidity and support other banks. "The market focus is on current banking sector volatility and the potential for further rate hikes by the Fed," said Baden Moore, National Australia Bank's head of commodity research. However, some executives are calling on the central bank to pause its monetary policy tightening for now but be ready to resume raising rates later. The group agreed in October to cut oil production targets by 2 million barrels per day until the end of 2023.

[1/5] Workers strike, after German trade union Verdi called on workers at Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dortmund, Hanover and Bremen airports to go on a 24-hour strike, in Frankfurt, Germany February 17, 2023. REUTERS/Heiko BeckerBERLIN, March 17 (Reuters) - Strikes at four German airports led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights on Friday in the latest bout of industrial action to disrupt travel plans in recent months. German union Verdi called on security and ground handling staff at airports in Duesseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Stuttgart and Baden-Baden to strike over pay and working conditions. Cologne/Bonn Airport said that 144 flights were cancelled as a result, while Duesseldorf Airport said earlier in the week it was working on a "significantly reduced flight schedule". "No take-offs and landings are possible all day due to the Verdi strike," Stuttgart Airport said in a statement, calling on passengers not to travel to the airport.
Jeffrey Epstein's death in a federal jail was seen as a shocking Justice Department failure. But more than three years later, the office still hasn't released its report into the circumstances of Epstein's death. "We all took it by surprise," Mark Epstein told Insider. Companies Mercedes Benz Group AG FollowFRANKFURT, March 3 (Reuters) - Mercedes-Benz (MBGn.DE) laid the foundation stone for a sustainable battery recycling factory in Kuppenheim, southern Germany on Friday. The pilot plant will have an annual capacity of 2500 tonnes and will contribute to the production of more than 50,000 battery modules for new electric Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Subject to talks with the public sector, the pilot factory will be completed a few months later. The Kuppenheim plant already runs a CO2-neutral operation with solar and green electricity. "We are sending an important signal of innovative strength in Baden-Württemberg and Germany for sustainable electromobility," said Jörg Burzer, management board member of Mercedes-Benz in production and supply chain management.
Tesla Inc. agreed to change camera settings in its cars after complaints from European consumers and an investigation by the Dutch privacy regulator. The last 10 minutes of recorded footage will be saved under the new settings, instead of the hour of footage that was previously stored. The previous camera settings allowed serious privacy violations, the regulator said. PREVIEWWith the new software update, the headlights of Tesla cars will blink if the cameras are recording, and a message will be displayed on an internal touch screen, the Dutch regulator said. The regulator said it planned to investigate how data is transferred out of Tesla cars.
Oil rises on China demand hopes and supply concerns

LONDON, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Monday, buoyed by optimism over Chinese demand, continued production curbs by major producers and Russia's plans to rein in supply. Separately Russia plans to cut oil production by 500,000 bpd, equating to about 5% of its output, in March after the West imposed price caps on Russian oil and oil products. China and India have become major buyers of Russian crude since the European Union embargo. At the same time, future oil supply shortages are likely to drive prices toward $100 a barrel by the end of the year, Goldman Sachs analysts said in a Feb. 19 note. Prices will move higher "as the market pivots back to deficit with underinvestment, shale constraints and OPEC discipline ensuring supply does not meet demand", they wrote.
SINGAPORE, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Monday amid optimism over China's demand recovery, concerns that underinvestment will crimp future oil supply and as major producers keep output limits in place. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for March, which expires on Tuesday, was at $76.78 a barrel, up 44 cents or 0.6%. Russia plans to cut oil production by 500,000 bpd, or around 5% of output, in March after the West imposed price caps on Russian oil and oil products. China is the world's largest crude oil importer. Prices will move higher "as the market pivots back to deficit with underinvestment, shale constraints and OPEC discipline ensuring supply does not meet demand," they wrote.
MELBOURNE, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Oil prices fell in early trade on Friday but were headed for a weekly gain with the market continuing to seesaw between fears of a recession hitting the United States and hopes for strong fuel demand recovery in China, the world's top oil importer. Brent crude futures fell 28 cents, or 0.3%, to $84.22 a barrel by 0117 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 35 cents, or 0.5%, to $77.71. The latest U.S. oil inventory data this week also raised fears about a slowdown in the world's biggest economy, with crude stocks having climbed to their highest since June 2021. The lower rate hike expectations drove the dollar down, which in turn supported oil prices. The market has also been buoyed by Saudi Arabia's move to increase its official crude sales prices to Asia, seen as signalling a demand recovery in China.
Shares in EnBW rose 5.5% after the news to end the day at their highest level in five weeks. The savings banks in Baden-Wuerttemberg, where EnBW is based, are part of the final bidding round, their president Peter Schneider said last week. KfW, EnBW and CIP declined to comment. EnBW Chief Financial Officer Thomas Kusterer in November said EnBW hoped to conclude the sales process in early 2023. WASHINGTON, Jan 26 (Reuters) - The FBI revealed on Thursday it had secretly hacked and disrupted a prolific ransomware gang called Hive, a maneuver that allowed the bureau to thwart the group from collecting more than $130 million in ransomware demands from more than 300 victims. They were then able to alert victims in advance so they could take steps to protect their systems before Hive demanded the payments. In that case, the Justice Department seized some $2.3 million in cryptocurrency ransom after the company had already paid the hackers. The Justice Department said that over the years, Hive has targeted more than 1,500 victims in 80 different countries, and has collected more than $100 million in ransomware payments. Attorney General Merrick Garland said the FBI's operation helped a wide range of victims, including a Texas school district.
Oil rallies on tight U.S. stocks as winter blast hits

MELBOURNE, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose for a fourth straight day on Thursday with U.S. crude, heating oil and jet fuel stocks seen tight just as a chilly blast hits the United States and travel is set to soar for the holiday season. At the same time there was a decline in distillate stocks, which include heating oil and jet fuel, which defied expectations for a build. Jet fuel consumption is also expected to pick up with a post-COVID boom in travel for the end-of-year holiday season. "On our numbers...the crude market is finely balanced," said National Australia Bank's head of commodity research Baden Moore. A softer U.S. dollar has also buoyed oil prices, as crude becomes cheaper for buyers holding other currencies.

Numerous officers were deployed in several federal states, said a spokeswoman for the Karlsruhe-based authority . German authorities on Wednesday detained 25 members and supporters of a far-right group that the prosecutor's office said were preparing a violent overthrow of the state, with some members suspected of plotting an armed attack on the parliament. Prosecutors said the raids were conducted by more than 3,000 police officials and security forces across 11 German federal states. Suspects were arrested in the German states of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Saxony, Thuringia as well as in Austria and Italy, said the office. The group's ideology is in the same vein as the far-right Reichsbuerger movement and QAnon conspiracy theorists who share the deep conviction that Germany is ruled by a "Deep State", the office.

REUTERS/Michael DalderMUNICH/BERLIN, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Former Wirecard executives go on trial on Thursday, two years after the collapse of the payments company that produced Germany's biggest post-war fraud scandal and sent shockwaves through the country's political and financial establishment. Wirecard, which started out processing payments for pornography and online gambling, rose to be worth $28 billion and displaced Commerzbank (CBKG.DE) in Germany's DAX blue-chip index. But in June 2020, Wirecard was forced to admit that 1.9 billion euros were missing from its balance sheet. In the ructions that followed Wirecard's demise, the head of German financial regulator BaFin resigned and the head of Germany's accounting watchdog also stepped down.
German inflation in key states eases in November
  + stars: | 2022-11-29 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
BERLIN, Nov 29 (Reuters) - German inflation dipped in five states in November, data showed on Tuesday, suggesting cost pressures eased in Europe's largest economy - a welcome development for the European Central Bank but unlikely to weaken its resolve to tame prices. In North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, annual inflation slowed this month to 10.4% from 11.0% in October. Inflation also eased slightly in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, Brandenburg and Hesse. Her comments, along with remarks by Dutch central bank chief Klaas Knot earlier, were likely to dampen speculation that the European Central Bank was about to take a gentler path with future rate increases. A Reuters poll of economists pointed to national inflation, harmonised to compare with other European Union countries, easing to 11.3% in November from 11.6% in October.

[1/5] German Labour and Social Affairs Minister Hubertus Heil speaks at an extraordinary session, as Members of German upper House of Parliament or Bundesrat vote on Buergergeld or "citizens' money" welfare reform law, in the plenary hall, in Berlin, Germany November 14, 2022. REUTERS/Michele TantussiBERLIN, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Germany's conservative opposition held up a major welfare reform on Monday, setting the scene for a mediation process to find a compromise that could still allow the introduction of ambitious measures to support the unemployed in gaining vocational skills. The welfare reform would introduce Buergergeld, or "citizens' money", to replace the Hartz IV system brought in from 2005, which sanctions people who reject job offers. "Our welfare state can only function if there are duties as well as rights," Baden-Wuerttemberg labour minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut of the opposition conservative CDU party said. German Labour Minister Hubertus Heil said the ruling coalition -- of his Social Democrat (SPD) party with the Greens and the liberal FDP -- would call on a mediation committee later on Monday.

Oil prices fell in early trade on Friday on a stronger dollar, but were on track for a weekly gain on concerns about supply tightening with Europe's pending cut-off of imports from Russia. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were down 56 cents, or 0.6%, at $88.52 a barrel, paring about half the gains from the previous session. Still, both benchmark oil contracts were on course for a weekly rise, with Brent heading for a gain of more than 3% and WTI more than 4%. Friday's declines came as the dollar index inched up to 110.57, making oil more expensive for buyers holding other currencies. "From an oil market perspective — despite the high interest rates — that's a direct driver into your demand outlook," said Baden Moore, head of commodities research at National Australia Bank.
"But it's likely to be a more difficult environment next year for everybody than it has been here in (20)22." With no signs of a letup in air travel demand, the Boston-based company sees "significant" long-term growth opportunity for its aviation business. As part of efforts to mitigate the problem, he said the company is carrying excess inventory and ordering some parts and raw materials well in advance. "We are carrying inventory and incurring excess cost because of these supply-chain issues," Culp said, adding that excess inventory and costs are "very real" near-term challenges for the company. It is also helping suppliers reduce their reliance on labor, he said.
FRANKFURT, Oct 24 (Reuters) - A German consumer group said on Monday it is suing Deutsche Bank's (DBKGn.DE) asset management unit DWS (DWSG.DE) for allegedly misrepresenting a fund's green credentials in marketing materials. DWS, which has repeatedly denied it misled investors, rejects the allegations by the consumer group, which represents consumers in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The group said it filed a suit against DWS on Sept. 26 in a Frankfurt court, which has set a hearing for March 10. The lawsuit against DWS is one of several filed by the consumer group against financial firms for allegedly overstating their green credentials. Asoka Woehrmann resigned as chief executive of DWS in June after German prosecutors raided the offices of DWS and Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt over allegations of greenwashing and misleading investments.

He said the volume of RSV patients is "two to three times what we've ever experienced."
That left the yield curve even more inverted, a signal of looming recession. Those declines have come as the Fed has already tightened rates by 300 basis points this year. "We might not see as strong returns in the equity markets going forward now that interest rates have been somewhat normalized." The shape of the Treasury yield curve, where short-term rates stand above longer-term ones, supports caution as well. Known as an inverted yield curve, the phenomenon has preceded past recessions.
