California health officials on Tuesday reported a possible case of bird flu in a child with mild symptoms. A bird flu test on the child four days after the positive result came back negative. Bird flu has been spreading rampantly in poultry since 2022 in the worst such outbreak the U.S. has ever experienced. California represents the largest share of human bird flu cases in the U.S. so far, with 27 confirmed, not counting the child in Alameda County. In Canada, health officials reported the country's first human case of bird flu last week, in a teenager hospitalized and in critical condition.

The unidentified skydiver was described as an Asian male in a statement from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office. In January, a Colorado man died after his parachute failed to deploy. Only a few days later, a faulty parachute also led to the death of a 73-year-old Arizona man whose parachute failed to fully deploy.

A burning body was discovered in a driveway of a home in Northeast Philadelphia early Tuesday morning, as police describe the death as “suspicious.”The Philadelphia police and fire departments responded to a report of a fire in a driveway in the 8000 block of Leonard Street shortly after 3 a.m., and found a man “with severe burns laying in the driveway,” officials said in a news release. The man, whose age was not known, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:23 a.m.A gas can and struck matches were found near the body, police said. The body was taken to the medical examiner's office and the investigation is ongoing. NBC News has reached out Philadelphia medical examiner's office for comment. A fence neighboring the driveway appeared to be damaged by the fire and NBC Philadelphia reported a K-9 officer was sniffing for clues at the scene early Tuesday.

But one thing is missing from the storied British carmaker Jaguar's new rebrand: cars. Instagram users will soon be able to manually reset the recommendation algorithm that determines what they see in their feeds. “We want to make sure everyone on Instagram — especially teens — has safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences and feels the time they’re spending on Instagram is valuable,” the company said. This summer, Instagram announced it would automatically put teens into separate private accounts with increased controls and restrictions. A Wyoming judge ruled Monday that two laws restricting and banning abortion in the state violate its constitution, making the procedure legal up until fetal viability for the time being. Teton County District Judge Melissa Owens imposed an injunction on the pair of state laws in a ruling that said they ran afoul of the state constitution, which says every person has a right to personal autonomy in making medical decisions. The statutes were therefore “facially unconstitutional,” Owens wrote, as they placed “unreasonable and unnecessary restrictions” on pregnant women’s rights to make their own health care decisions. CNN —An American silver coin dating back to the 17th century, before the United States was founded, has sold for a record-breaking $2.52 million at auction, eight years after it was discovered in an old cabinet in Amsterdam. The threepence coin was struck in 1652 in Boston just weeks after the first mint in the then-British colony had opened, according to a statement released Monday by Stack’s Bowers Galleries, which handled the sale. This was a threepence coin, as shown by the Roman numerals on one side of it. A rare 1794 silver dollar believed to be one of the first – if not the first – made by the US mint sold for $10 million in 2013. Meanwhile, a rare 1933 “Double Eagle” coin, one of the last gold coins ever struck for circulation in the US, sold for $18.9 million in 2021.

The company updated its full-year guidance on Tuesday, and now expects total sales of between $83 billion to $83.5 billion, higher than its previous forecast for $82.7 billion to $83.2 billion. Lowe's is lapping a year-ago period when the company lowered its outlook and sales tumbled nearly 13% year over year. Home Depot beat Wall Street's sales and earning expectations, yet posted its eighth quarter in a row of declining comparable sales.

Comcast is moving forward with the spinoff of its cable network channels, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC's Julia Boorstin on Tuesday. The separation is expected to take about a year, and an announcement from the company could come as early as Wednesday, the person said. The company had announced during its quarterly earnings in October it was considering a split of the cable networks. Other networks apart of the spinoff include E!, Syfy, Golf Channel, USA and Oxygen, a person close to the matter said. Disclosure: Comcast owns NBCUniversal, the parent company of CNBC.

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday said he would nominate Dr. Mehmet Oz — celebrity TV host and former U.S. Senate candidate — as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services administrator. Oz previously hosted "The Dr. Oz Show," a syndicated daytime television program for more than a dozen years. "America is facing a Healthcare Crisis, and there may be no Physician more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to Make America Healthy Again," Trump said in a statement Tuesday. Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take on the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake. "He will also cut waste and fraud within our Country's most expensive Government Agency, which is a third of our Nation's Healthcare spend, and a quarter of our entire National Budget."
