AP —John Ashton, the veteran character actor who memorably played the gruff but lovable police detective John Taggart in the “Beverly Hills Cop” films, has died. Ashton died Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado, his family announced in a statement released by Ashton’s manager, Alan Somers, on Sunday. In a career that spanned more than 50 years, Ashton was a regular face across TV series and films, including “Midnight Run,” “Little Big League” and “Gone Baby Gone.”But in the “Beverly Hills Cop” films, Ashton played an essential part of an indelible trio. A former Florida sheriff's deputy was arrested for manslaughter in connection with the accidental shooting death of his girlfriend, authorities said. Leslie Boileau called 911 Thursday night to report that he had "accidentally shot his girlfriend" at their home in Ocala. Boileau told police that he and his girlfriend had been "handling and dry-firing the firearms" when the shooting happened, authorities said. "While demonstrating the use of a rifle, Boileau accidentally discharged a loaded round, causing the fatal incident," police said. "In light of these findings, Leslie Boileau has been arrested for manslaughter for his role in the fatal shooting," police said.

Fyre Festival is set to return for round two next spring, this time on a privately owned island off Mexico. McFarland said he hopes to gather 3,000 people for Fyre Fest II, scheduled for April 25-28. Whereas he gave himself only six months from the idea for the first Fyre Fest to its attempted execution, McFarland said, he has spent a full year working on Fyre Fest II, with more than seven months to go. An Arkansas police officer who was caught on video beating a handcuffed inmate in the back of a patrol car has been fired and his case has been referred to prosecutors, the police chief said. Jonesboro Police Chief Rick Elliott fired Joseph Harris on Friday, a day after he was caught on his patrol car video elbowing and punching the handcuffed man and then slamming the car door on his head after the man choked himself with a seatbelt. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., was readmitted to the hospital Sunday night, just days after he was released from a weeks-long hospital stay to a rehabilitation facility, a source close to the congressman confirmed Monday. Pascrell checked himself into a hospital on July 14 with a fever, which his staff said may have been caused by a respiratory illness.
