North Korean troops have come under fire after joining Russia's war, Ukrainian officials said. The Pentagon says that North Korean troops engaged in combat would make them a fair target in the war. Kovalenko's statement on Monday was the first to suggest that North Korean troops were now actively fighting alongside Russian troops and against Ukraine. Last month, South Korean intelligence said that 1,500 North Korean troops had been shipped to Russia for training and likely deployment in the war. On Saturday, Ukrainian intelligence shared details of the military equipment it says Russia has issued to North Korean troops, including mortars, rifles, and machine guns.

Ukraine is facing a grim outlook along sectors of the front, especially in the east. AdvertisementRussia's grinding offensive operations have been gaining momentum in eastern Ukraine as challenges for the defenders mount. Ukraine's shocking invasion of Russia's Kursk region briefly took the focus off the fighting in the Donbas, but now Ukraine is losing ground both inside Russia and at home. Ukraine faces severe manpower shortages as its forces are stretched line across the front lines. Despite heavy losses, Russia has continued its momentum on Ukraine's eastern front.

CNN —The tumultuous 2024 election is ending with a contrast that encapsulates America’s fateful choice on election eve. The vice president also proposes reforms to improve the lives of working Americans — but hers are less revolutionary than Trump’s. If she loses Pennsylvania, Harris would need a combination of other swing states, including Georgia, Nevada and Arizona, where poll averages also show no clear leader. But the findings, which suggested a shift toward Harris from the previous Iowa Poll in September, also showed the vice president with a strong advantage among women. If such a pattern is repeated nationwide, the vice president could be headed to victory if she can limit her deficit to Trump among White males especially.

Sweden has dropped plans for 13 wind farms in the Baltic Sea due to security concerns. Wind turbines could interfere with radar and slow Sweden's missile response, its army said. A recent study found that an additional minute could be added to the country's missile response time. Sweden, which joined NATO earlier this year, shares a coast on the Baltic Sea with Russia. The reaction time in the event of a missile attack could go from 2 minutes to 60 seconds with wind farms in the way.

American policy is at a crossroads, but that won’t necessarily translate to a turning point in peace negotiations, analysts say. That’s because nothing suggests Russia is ready to come to the table, regardless of who ends up in the White House. The scope of the war is also too large for a simple negotiation between Moscow and Kyiv, experts say. Attritional war playing into Putin’s handsUkraine is already outmanned, and Putin appears ready to accept a high number of casualties. European nations are scrambling to increase ammunition production for Ukraine to prevent backsliding, in the event that US support drops off.

The question for Ukraine is whether Kursk will fare better than Germany's Battle of the Bulge. AdvertisementWhen Ukraine unleashed its Kursk offensive in August, it wasn't just the Russians who were surprised. By massing forces for offensives in eastern Ukraine, this thinned out the rest of the 600-mile front line, including the Kursk region. For example, "Ukraine's military announced the 61st Mechanized Brigade would be moving to Vovchansk, a city in the northern sector of the fighting in eastern Ukraine," said TRADOC. CNN —An armed group has taken control of a military post in central Bolivia, the country’s armed forces said on Friday. According to the Bolivian military’s statement, the “irregular armed group” kidnapped military personnel and seized weapons and ammunition from the base situated near the central Bolivian city of Cochabamba. Bolivian president Luis Arce said that the armed group was “affiliated” with former president Evo Morales, but did not offer evidence for the claim. The blockades, which Bolivian police said involve “violent armed groups,” have led to food and fuel shortages in some cities. CNN has reached out to the Bolivian government for more information on the events at the military base.

The focus on advanced technologies has put the two countries into a different kind of arms race. The US Air Force secretary suggested that AI could be decisive in future warfare. On Tuesday, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said China has been effectively modernizing the People's Liberation Army, fielding systems with the intent of challenging US forces, especially its high-value combat assets like carriers and satellites. China has built up its Rocket Force, developing capabilities that put US military assets at military bases and airfields across the Indo-Pacific within striking range. The RSF has been battling the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for control of the country since April last year. The incident follows the defection of the RSF commander in Al-Jazirah, the region where the massacre allegedly took place. The activist also noted that more than 30 villages in the eastern Al-Jazirah region have been abandoned as residents flee retaliatory militia attacks. The Sudan Doctors Network has also reported on mass killings in the same village, saying that RSF forces “committed a massacre against civilians in Al-Sareeha” resulting in 124 deaths, numerous injuries, and the displacement of hundreds in attacks on Friday. The UN says the fighting between the SAF and the RSF has triggered the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Israel is also heavily backed by the United States, which has supplied more than 29,000 guided bombs, artillery rockets and assorted missiles since 2009. A spiraling conflict between Iran and Israel, one of the United States’ closest allies, could pull U.S. forces positioned throughout the region into the fray. Israel has told the United States that it will not attack Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities in its expected attack. Though highly unlikely, an Israeli strike on Iran’s oil facilities could prompt Iran or its proxies to target refineries in Saudi Arabia or the U.A.E. This April, Iran’s attack involving more than 300 drones and missiles, in retaliation for Israel’s killing of seven Iranian officials in Syria, shattered that supposition.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy unveiled his much anticipated “victory plan” on Wednesday, calling on his allies to take urgent steps to bolster Kyiv at a precarious moment in a bid to end the war with Russia next year. His plan proposed establishing a “comprehensive non-nuclear strategic deterrence package” inside Ukraine to protect against threats from Russia and to destroy its military power. Zelenskyy said it was imperative Kyiv’s partners remained united. “If we start moving on this victory plan now, we may be able to end the war by next year at the latest,” he said. WASHINGTON — The United States is “concerned” by reports of North Korean soldiers fighting for Russia in Ukraine, a White House spokesperson said Tuesday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week accused North Korea of transferring personnel to Russia’s armed forces, saying his intelligence agencies had briefed him on “the actual involvement of North Korea in the war” in Ukraine. The Kremlin has dismissed the allegation as “fake news.”White House National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett said the involvement of North Korean troops in Ukraine, if true, would mark a significant increase in the North Korea-Russia defense relationship. Washington says North Korea has supplied Russia with ballistic missiles and ammunition. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a treaty with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un when he visited Pyongyang in June, and said it included a mutual assistance clause under which each side agreed to help the other repel external aggression.

Russia's military-industrial complex, feeding an insatiable war machine, has expanded significantly since the war began, as a result.
