Morgan Stanley has identified the companies that are set to benefit from Amazon 's launch of its new artificial intelligence chip. The Big Tech giant's cloud computing division Amazon Web Services launched its Trainium 2 AI chip earlier this month. AWS hopes these chips will help it diversify away from Nvidia , its primary AI chip supplier. Morgan Stanley believes seven companies, all based in Taiwan, are expected to be "major beneficiaries" of a widespread deployment of AWS' new chip. They are expected to be built by chipmaker TSMC and will be designed by Taiwanese firm Alchip , according to Morgan Stanley analyst Charlie Chan.

This investment, first reported by CNBC, is similar to one from December 2016, when Son pledged a $50 billion investment and 50,000 jobs. Through the company’s venture capital arm, the Vision Fund, SoftBank ended up investing about $75 billion, CNN has learned. For example, as part of the proposed plan, the company said it would pump $1 billion into Florida startup OneWeb. Most famously, Trump in 2017 announced with Foxconn a massive $10 billion electronics factory in Wisconsin that was expected to create 13,000 jobs. But the facility Trump announced has become a Microsoft data hub that aims to train employees and manufacturers on how to best use artificial intelligence.

Arm and Qualcomm are heading to trial this week in Delaware after two years of legal disputes. The legal battle over a licensing agreement puts Arm in conflict with one of its largest customers. The trial could have big implications for the entire chip industry, from M&A to IP. The dispute centers on a licensing arrangement connected to Qualcomm's $1.4 billion acquisition of chip startup Nuvia in 2021. Should Arm win the legal battle, it could halt shipments of laptops made by partners — including Microsoft — that contain disputed Qualcomm chips.

Companies including GM are now focused on more "core" operations and adjacent business opportunities, including software, EVs and "personal autonomous vehicles." To GM's credit, Wall Street, which previously pushed for such growth businesses, applauded the decision to end Cruise's robotaxi ambitions. But it's hard to ignore that Cruise is GM's latest mobility venture or growth business to fold or not live up to expectations. Super CruiseOther than saving capital, GM's silver lining for canceling the Cruise robotaxi business was that it sees more promise in continuing to develop its Super Cruise hands-free advanced driver assistance system. Vogt was not enthusiastic about GM's decision to kill the robotaxi operations.

Secure messaging apps use end-to-end encryption to protect communications from hackers, surveillance and unauthorized access, so even messaging app providers can't read your messages. There are also paid messaging apps that are end-to-end encrypted, such as Threema. For example, RCS messages using Google Messages are automatically upgraded to end-to-end encryption, but Apple's implementation of RCS on iPhones is not end-to-end encrypted, Horwitz said. For example, Facebook Messenger offers end-to-end encrypted messages, but not in all cases. The app supports end-to-end encryption when messaging other users using Google Messages over RCS, according to the company.

Companies are cracking down on job applicants trying to use AI to boost their prospects. AI was supposed to make the job hunt easier, but job seekers should expect landing a new gig harder in the coming years, thanks to companies growing increasingly suspicious of candidates using bots to get their foot in the door.
