Cleveland led 3-1 in the eighth before Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer off All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase and Giancarlo Stanton followed with a solo drive. The Fry and Noel shots came after Judge and Stanton had connected for their homers, putting the Yankees up 4-3 against Clase. But the Guardians aren’t done, and still have a chance to end the longest World Series drought, stretching to 1948. The 30th postseason matchup between the Guardians and Yankees was another tightly contested matchup between two franchises who know each other well this time of year. CLEVELAND — The baseball gods work in the shadows, scripting moments and matchups and sequences that we couldn’t begin to fathom. Take, for instance, the night of June 26, when Matthew Boyd just so happened to flip on a Cleveland Guardians game to gauge the pulse of the team desperate for his services. But in late June, shortly before Noel arrived, he suffered an elbow injury that the Guardians have kept discreet. “I’m like, ‘No, I’m just not hitting well, Dad,’” Fry said. The first game of the American League Championship Series on Monday night between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians saw an uptick of 4% from 2023, grossing 3.9 million viewers, according to a TNT Sports spokesperson. The championship series gains come right after four successful league division series for MLB and its broadcast partners. The American League Division Series averaged 3 million viewers, a more than 20% increase from 2023, according to TNT Sports. Viewership for the National League Division Series rose too, with game four in each series climbing from 2022. The Yankees have a 2-0 game lead against the Guardians, and the Mets-Dodgers series is tied at 1-1.

CNN —The New York Yankees clinched an American League Championship Series (ALCS) spot on Thursday night with a 3-1 win over the Kansas City Royals which saw them take the American League Division Series (ALDS) by the same score. Starter Gerrit Cole was the game’s dominant force, giving up just one run and six hits across seven innings, striking out four. The victory sees New York advance to the 19th Championship Series in its history, four more than any other franchise. Kansas City, meanwhile, has now lost its last nine games at Kauffman Stadium.
