False claims are spreading on social media that Muslims in the UK are exempt from paying stamp duty, a tax paid when buying property or land. In fact, stamp duty relief rules for Sharia-compliant alternative mortgages stop the levy being paid twice, but stamp duty is still ultimately financed by the buyer. Social media accounts, including here , claim Muslims are exempt from stamp duty charges. Stamp duty relief was introduced in 2003 to end stamp duty charges on both transactions. The rules ensure the same outcome and amount of stamp duty payable as for conventional mortgages, a spokesperson for HMRC said.

CNN —Controversial internet influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been released from house arrest in Romania ahead of their trial on charges of human trafficking and rape, Bucharest’s Court of Appeals announced on Friday. The Tate brothers and two Romanian female accomplices were released from house arrest and put under judicial control for a period of 60 days from August 4 to October 2, according to a court statement. The suspects were under house arrest pending a criminal investigation for abuses committed against seven women, accusations they have denied. Prosecutors have said the Tate brothers recruited their victims by seducing them and falsely claiming to want a relationship or marriage. CNN —A former childcare worker has been charged with 1,623 child abuse offenses allegedly carried out against 91 children in Australia and elsewhere over 15 years, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said in a statement on Tuesday. The 45-year-old man from the Gold Coast has been in police custody since August 2022, when he was initially charged with making child exploitation material and using a carriage service to distribute it. “This is one of the most horrific cases of alleged child abuse our detectives have seen,” Assistant Commissioner Michael Fitzgerald with the New South Wales police said in a news conference. Other charges include hundreds of counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 years, counts of making child exploitation material and other charges related to possessing, producing, distributing or obtaining child exploitation material. However, some places around the world have much higher rates of shark attacks than others, with the numbers rising with the passing years. Sustained growth in Australia's electricity demand has in turn meant that power producers must continue to heavily rely on coal for electricity generation on top of recent additions in supply of renewable energy sources. Even so, electric vehicles accounted for only 5.1% of total Australian car sales in 2022, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
