Jon Gold, vice president of supply chain and customs policy of the NRF, said the administration has taken steps to address the supply chain challenges. Earlier this year, for example, the administration rolled out a pilot supply chain data sharing program called Freight Logistics Optimization Works, or FLOW. "The administration needs to remain focused and continue to convene the right supply chain stakeholders to discuss ways to improve supply chain operations and expand data sharing to create a truly 21st century supply chain," Gold said. If you're not sure whether you're justified in skipping out on a workday, here are the best reasons for not showing up — and advice for telling your boss. Bad reasons to miss workSmith-Proulx said the worst excuses for missing work are the ones your boss expects you to have control over, such as being up late or missing the train. Constantly being absent from work, Smith-Proulx said, "can make it difficult for the employer to continue business, and they may need to replace you with a more reliable employee."

A new corporate tax on stock buybacks hasn’t worried finance chiefs enough for them to rethink their strategy. For Bolingbrook, Ill.-based Ulta Beauty Inc., a maker of beauty products, the impact of the tax will be minimal, finance chief Scott Settersten said. AUSTIN, Texas — Texas’ top elections official resigned Monday after an intense year of trying to reassure election skeptics, navigating the rocky launch of new voting laws that resulted in thousands of discarded mail ballots and overseeing a limited audit of the 2020 election. Greg Abbott, came under immediate scrutiny from the moment he took the job in October 2021. Right away, Scott was tasked with trying to give Texas voters confidence about election results and the ability to cast a ballot after Republicans passed a sweeping new voting law just weeks before his appointment. But those efforts got off to a bumpy start during Texas’ first-in-the-nation primary as voters struggled to navigate new mail voting requirements, resulting in counties throwing out nearly 23,000 mail ballots. In the November elections, the rate of rejected ballots had returned to more normal levels, and Scott’s office said there were no major issues surrounding the election.

Some GOP senators, including Rick Scott of Florida and Josh Hawley of Missouri, said the electorate should determine if Trump's remarks were disqualifying.

After what happened with bank stocks Monday, investor attention is going to shift to the Goldman Sachs US Financial Services Conference that opens today. Regional bank stocks tend to move with the S & P, so that is a very big selloff, and volumes were elevated as well. Others think investors are simply catching up with the "higher for longer" interest rate environment. You hear 'recession' and you sell bank stocks," Wells Fargo's long-time bank analyst Mike Mayo said on CNBC yesterday. "If we are entering a slower growth economy, will banks have to put aside more money for loans going bad?," Siefers told me.
