CNN —Plenty of House Republicans are privately jockeying for President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet. “I have 10 colleagues who think they’re going to the Cabinet,” one House GOP lawmaker quipped, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal dynamics. But you’re not going to let three or four go.”Inside the House GOP, many lawmakers and senior aides have long assumed Stefanik would go to the Cabinet. She and Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, Trump’s former physician, are considered to have some of the tightest relationships between Trump and the House GOP. And privately, Reps. Anna Paulina Luna and Cory Mills have also expressed interest, according to a Florida GOP source.

Family offices are increasingly bypassing private equity funds and buying stakes in private companies directly, according to a new survey. Half of family offices plan to do "direct deals" — or invest in a private company without a private equity fund — over the next two years, according to a family office survey from Bastiat Partners and Kharis Capital. As they grow in size and sophistication, family offices are becoming more confident about finding and negotiating their own private equity deals. "Family offices are being gradually recognized as an economic powerhouse in private markets," according to the report. The big challenge for family offices as they do more direct deals is so-called "deal flow," or the volume of possible deals.

The rule, proposed nearly a year ago, was mandated by the Inflation Reduction Act, which could make it more difficult for the second Trump administration to dismantle. The methane fee will be charged by the federal government until the companies fix the leaks. This fee was paired with financial incentives for oil and gas companies to fix leaky pipelines or infrastructure. The rule could prove tricky for the incoming Trump administration to overturn because the program was included in Biden’s climate law, which passed Congress in 2022. Undoing it would take another act of Congress; while not impossible if Republicans take the House of Representatives, it could be an uphill climb and take longer than if the Trump administration were acting on its own.

They’ve pressed forward even though a majority of Americans still see the Capitol rioters as responsible for an attack against democracy, according to the most recent polling. The most pressing concerns are for convicted rioters required to report to prison before Trump’s inauguration in January, and for rioters with sentencing hearings coming up, according to a source familiar with the discussions. “They’re thrilled with the election, but there’s a lot of uncertainty from their perspective,” the source told CNN. For convicted rioters already serving prison sentences, there’s even less hope to get them out based on Trump’s campaign rhetoric, the source said. She later told CNN that her strategy guide has already been sent to Trump and the Republican National Committee.

Tech companies that source a large part of their supplies from China could suffer under a second Trump term, according to Citi. Citi analyst Atif Malik shared a basket of stocks that have China manufacturing exposure and could therefore face ramifications going forward. While the company has a very high exposure to Chinese manufacturing, Malik said that Apple is currently making efforts to diversify its supply chain. "China is the main manufacturing location for Apple with more than 90% manufacturing in China, in our estimates," the analyst said. "Manufacturing is primarily conducted through contract manufacturers and original design manufacturers with manufacturing locations in China, Malaysia, Mexico, Taiwan, and Vietnam," he added.

Miller was a powerful White House aide in Trump’s first term, authoring much of his most fiery scripted rhetoric as a speechwriter. Yet despite these draconian visions, there’s uncertainty about how far Trump will go in his deportation program and whether it matches his dystopian speeches. Many Democrats and Republicans could agree on Trump’s vow to start by deporting criminal undocumented migrants — the easiest part of his plan. Trump’s critics and vulnerable undocumented migrants, however, will find little in the president-elect’s new staff picks to offer them comfort. In every incoming presidential administration, staffing is important and provides ideological clues to how a White House will act.

Jerusalem CNN —Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is on a winning streak. He fired his defense minister, Yoav Gallant, who long threatened his coalition and whose attempted dismissal last year led to massive protests. Donald Trump meets with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago on July 26, in Palm Beach, Florida. The slate of accusations against the prime minister, he said, are “an opportunity” to brand himself as the victim of a witch hunt. Reports in Israeli media this week suggest that his office may be floating a trial balloon for dismissing Baharav Miara.

CNN reported on Friday that Burgum was under consideration for a role as energy czar. “It’s sort of the conservative version of [the Biden administration’s senior climate advisor] John Podesta,” one of the sources said. Burgum had been in contention for a Cabinet-level position, like running the department of Interior or Energy, CNN previously reported. It also means those candidates – not burdened by a lengthy Senate confirmation process – can launch their work on day one. CNN —Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the most senior leader in the Church of England, has resigned over his handling of a child abuse case, according to his official account. “Having sought the gracious permission of His Majesty The King, I have decided to resign as Archbishop of Canterbury,” Welby said in a statement on Tuesday. Pressure had been mounting on Welby in recent days, following an independent review into “sickening abuse” committed by John Smyth, a deceased British lawyer considered the worst serial abuser linked to the Church of England. The pair exchanged Christmas cards and Welby donated small sums of money to his “missions” in Zimbabwe. Until now, there’s been no historical precedent for an Archbishop of Canterbury resigning over child abuse.

Representatives for Trump’s transition team and the FTC didn’t respond to requests for comment. Wall Street, which has been on a tear since Trump’s decisive victory last week, appears to be ready to turn the page on the Khan era. Similarly, the FTC has gone after Big Tech, Big Pharma and even Big Mattress in the name of keeping competition robust. To them, Khan and her DOJ partner in trustbusting, Jonathan Kanter, represent a threat to the bottom line. Since last week’s election, both Kroger and Albertsons shares have risen sharply as investors anticipate the deal would face little resistance under Trump’s FTC.

CNN —Donald Trump’s lawyers and the Manhattan district attorney’s office have agreed to delay activity in the hush money case until November 19 to give the president-elect’s lawyers time to make new arguments on how his election victory impacts the case. Judge Juan Merchan was expected to rule Tuesday on whether to overturn the business fraud conviction based on this summer’s Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. “The stay, and dismissal, are necessary to avoid unconstitutional impediments to President Trump’s ability to govern,” Bove wrote. The Supreme Court’s immunity decision also indefinitely tied up Trump’s federal election subversion case in Washington, DC. The jury should not have heard any testimony from Hope Hicks about events in 2018 when she was the White House Communications Director, Trump’s lawyers argued.

NYSEThere's been a rush of enthusiasm on Wall Street regarding Donald Trump's election win, but hedge funds actually generate more alpha when the White House is occupied by a Democrat president than a Republican one, according to HFR, collating data going back to 1991. "In 2025, Trump's influence on Congressional Republicans will be stronger but his margin in the House will be in the single digits (down from 47 in 2017). … The narrow House majority will complicate the passage of any tax bill in 2025," he said. Mills said the GOP is expected to use the budget reconciliation process to pass any of President-elect Trump's tax proposals. That measure, known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act , ultimately passed and went into effect in 2018. Wolfe Research analyst Tobin Marcus also thinks passing a tax bill is a "complex challenge" with such narrow majorities across the House and the Senate.

Nearly 63% of the US population has fluoridated water flowing through their taps, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hawaii is the only US state without any fluoride in municipal taps; fluoridated water is only available there on military bases. As such, fluoridated water is now mandated on any military base with more than 3,300 people. Rumors have circulated that drinking fluoridated water can lead to bone cancer (osteosarcoma), but long-term studies from both the UK and US haven't found any credible evidence of higher rates in areas where people drink fluoridated water. Their review concluded that some studies of fluoride consumption have found links between higher fluoride water levels and lower IQs in kids.

Fortune Brands, which owns a portfolio of home products brands like Moen plumbing fixtures and Yale locks, has been rethinking its supply chain since Trump's tariffs in 2017.

10'000 Hours | Digitalvision | Getty ImagesCurrent borrowers should remain entitled to reliefWhile the program remains in effect, borrowers are entitled to the relief, said Betsy Mayotte, president of The Institute of Student Loan Advisors, a nonprofit. "PSLF is written into federal law, by a Republican president, and it would take an act of Congress to eliminate it." That means current borrowers would still be able to work toward loan forgiveness under the program. "So, worst-case scenario, it would be for loans made on or after the date of such a law enactment," Mayotte said. "Most likely the change would apply only to new borrowers," Kantrowitz said.

Now, with many celebrating the apparent defeat of inflation, Summers is delivering another warning to Washington. Summers, the famed economist and former Treasury secretary, cautioned Tuesday that the inflation genie may not be back in the bottle. “My own judgement is that the Fed and markets are still underestimating the overheating risk,” Summers said during a conversation hosted by the New York Economic Club. “I am fearful that the Fed is going to be more like once burned, twice burned, rather than once burned, twice shy, on inflationary risks,” Summers said. “There is a very substantial risk that the president will attempt to implement what he talked about.
