In recent years wildfires have regularly burned in and around Wrightwood, a picturesque mountain town 60 miles east of Los Angeles known for its 1930s cabins. In neighboring Orange County, firefighters used bulldozers, helicopters and planes to control a rapidly spreading blaze called the Airport Fire that started Monday and spread to about 3 square miles in only a few hours. Concialdi said the fire was burning away from homes in Orange County, but there are 36 recreational cabins in the area. Residents along the southern edge of Big Bear Lake were told to leave the area Tuesday night, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The blaze had charred more than 51 square miles of grass and brush and blanketed the area with a thick cloud of dark smoke.

A federal judge issued an injunction Tuesday partially blocking the enforcement of a New Hampshire law that bars some transgender students from competing on school sports teams that align with their gender identity. Last month, two transgender teenage girls and their families sued New Hampshire education officials, arguing that the measure violates Title IX civil rights rules, which prevent sex discrimination in federally funded education programs and activities. The Biden administration expanded Title IX rules in April to include protections for students on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Over 140 Ukrainian drones targeted multiple Russian regions overnight, including Moscow and surrounding areas, killing at least one person, officials said Tuesday, in one of the biggest drone attacks on Russian soil in the 2 1/2-year war. A woman died and three people were injured in the town of Ramenskoye, just outside Moscow, where drones hit two multistory residential buildings and started fires, Moscow region Gov. Five residential buildings were evacuated due to falling drone debris, Vorobyov said. New Hampshire voters will head to the polls Tuesday for a primary that will set up the matchup for one of just two governor’s races in presidential battleground states this year. A strengthening Tropical Storm Francine is expected to become a hurricane long before it reaches the Louisiana coast Wednesday, federal forecasters said on Monday. He wrote that arrests for marijuana possession of "personal amounts" waste taxpayers' dollars and suggested that the ballot measure would help prevent deaths from fentanyl-laced marijuana. If passed, the ballot measure would permit residents over 21 to possess, buy or consume marijuana recreationally. Ron DeSantis opposes the marijuana ballot measure and most congressional Republicans have in recent years voted against bills to reform U.S. policy on marijuana.
