U.S. officials expect that in the coming weeks, Iran is likely to contact individual Americans directly to try to influence how they vote, stir societal divide or incite violence, according to three sources with knowledge of U.S. intelligence reporting on the issue. The U.S. intelligence community noted this month that Iranian hackers appear to have gained access to some Americans’ voting records, as they did in 2020. Last week, U.S. intelligence officials told reporters that both Iran and Russia were continuing propaganda operations to influence American voters and society. A spokesperson for Iran’s mission to the United Nations didn’t respond to a request for comment, but officials for Tehran have routinely denied American accusations of election influence campaigns. In the leadup to the 2020 election, U.S. officials announced that Iran was behind an ambitious effort to sow election discord.

TEL AVIV — Senior White House officials will travel to Israel on Thursday, a U.S. official and a source briefed on the matter told NBC News, as the Biden administration intensifies efforts to end the conflicts in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. The officials are expected to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the possibility of a deal to end the fighting in Lebanon, the source said. Brett McGurk, National Security Council coordinator for the Middle East, and Amos Hochstein, a U.S. special envoy with a focus on Lebanon, are also expected to meet other senior Israeli officials, the source said. McGurk and Hochstein will engage the U.S. ally on a range of issues including Gaza, Lebanon, hostages and Iran, the U.S. official said. CNN —Italian alpine skier Matilde Lorenzi died aged 19 from injuries suffered in a training accident, the Italian Ministry of Defense confirmed Tuesday. The rising skiing star suffered a serious crash during a training session on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales, South Tyrol, Italy, according to an International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) statement. “I will always remember her with a smile, with her determination and drive,” her older sister Lucrezia Lorenzi – a World Cup series skier – told CNN affiliate SkyTG24. The 19-year-old was Italian junior champion last season in the overall standings and super-G, according to the Olympic website. US alpine ski star Mikaela Shiffrin was one of many who expressed sadness, reposting images of Lorenzi captioned with broken hearts on her X account.
