A Hertz customer found 10 pounds of rancid meat in his rented Tesla's front trunk, the WSJ reported. He told Insider the rotting meat had burst from its packaging and was oozing all over the frunk. The next renter made the unlucky discovery: Costco bags and a 10-pound pack of rancid meat that he told Insider was absolutely pungent. "Buried underneath the pile of groceries was the source of the stink," Marc Froemelt told Insider. He told Insider that he noticed the strange smell, but attributed it to odors from the roadside.

Back-to-school spending is expected to reach a record-high of $41.5 billion, according to the National Retail Federation's annual survey . The trends suggest certain retailers will fare better than others, with analysts favoring these stocks for back-to-school. According to a Stifel survey, retro basketball styles from Nike were the most popular choice for back-to-school this year. "These retailers have invested significantly in their private label assortments in recent years and continue to grow penetration," Jefferies analysts wrote in an Aug. 28 note. That could be a warning sign for the holidays as many investors look to back-to-school sales to set the tone for the winter season.

Buying a used car is a risk but gap coverage and a warranty make me feel better about that risk. When I started looking for a used car, I weighed everything I wanted in a car, and the biggest factor in my decision was cost. But I also know that getting a used car is one of the best choices I can make for the environment. Tax credits for used electric cars are worth up to $4,000The tax credits offered for electric cars have varied over the years, but the most recent big change came in August 2022, and it came with both upsides and downsides. If it doesn’t push valuation too hard, a public listing could be seamless. Instacart booked net income in 2022, a rarity for a growth company hitting the public market. That brings Instacart’s enterprise value to roughly $17 billion, less than half of what it was worth in 2021 but still higher than the internal valuation it inked last year. But Mahaffy's research found that it is not necessarily because companies have leaned away from socially conscious strategies. Instead, she pointed a growing use of the term "sustainability," as well as other words like "climate" or "decarbonization" that fall under the ESG umbrella. It comes at a time when ESG has become increasingly fraught in the political sphere. Mahaffry noted that areas like the U.S. where ESG has received the most scrutiny have seen the biggest drops in use of the term on earnings calls. How I Turned My Errands Into Exercise
  + stars: | 2023-08-26 | by ( Andrew Leonard | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
The 11-mile round trip left me with dead legs, a sore back and the sneaking suspicion I had made a mistake. What started as a necessity — I had no car, so I must bike — became a strategy: Errands are an opportunity for exercise. I began seeking out new errands just for the exercise they would provide. Running low on Sichuan peppercorns spurred me to cycle the nine-mile round trip to the Chinese supermarket. Earlier this year, I learned that the public library stocked a book about an ancient tomb I was researching, and my first thought was: Excellent, that’s a 4,000-step round trip!
