"The primary culprit is the property sector. This source of growth has now evaporated and won't be coming back," said Julian Evans-Pritchard, head of China economics at Capital Economics in Singapore. The Sept. 4-11 Reuters poll of 76 analysts, based in and outside mainland China, predicted the economy would grow 5.0% this year, lower than 5.5% forecast in a July survey. While recent data showed signs of improvement in the economy, some economists said more policy support was needed for the ailing property sector. A strong majority of economists who answered an additional question said the risks to their 2023 and 2024 GDP growth forecasts were skewed to the downside.

Of hundreds of Ukrainian prisoners of war held by Russia and released in exchanges, Ukrainian officials have said 90 percent suffered torture, including sexual violence, she said. Yet she expressed frustration that during her visit she was not able to advance far with cases of sexual violence against women in the Ukrainian conflict. Relatively few Ukrainian women have come forward to prosecutors with complaints of sexual torture or crimes, she said. Men, who also suffered sexual torture in detention, have come forward in larger numbers, she said. Ms. Edwards said that the coercive environment of the conflict zone was enough to establish lack of consent in cases of sexual violence.

“It’s really a threat to democracy while they trample our rights and liberties every single day of the year,” he said. This followed a March rally in which he billed his 2024 campaign and potential second term as a vessel of “retribution” for supporters who believe they’ve been wronged. In a recent CNN poll, for example, only 28% of Republicans thought Biden legitimately won sufficient votes to win the 2020 election. This comes after years of Trump incessantly denying he lost, and despite courts throwing out his multiple challenges to the result. “Indict my opponent, he’s doing well,” Trump said, implying that was exactly what Biden had done.

Based on his price objective of $650 per share, Arya's forecast implies nearly 44% upside from Monday's closing price of $451.78. Since the beginning of 2023, Nvidia's forays into AI have vaulted its stock price over 209%. But even Nvidia has not been immune to growing investor concerns around rising U.S.-China tensions, weakening industrial activity, and the sustainability in demand for generative AI products. Over the long term, the analyst expects Nvidia's earnings potential and several catalysts will continue to drive its share price higher. He warned investors may be "overlooking" these factors, which include the company's expanding product offerings, especially those within the generative AI space.

The criticism comes as Ramaswamy is slated to visit Ground Zero Monday for the tragedy’s 22nd anniversary. “It spits in the face of the thousands of lives that we lost on that day and subsequently,” Hurd said of Ramaswamy’s comments at a campaign stop here. Ramaswamy insists his comments about 9/11 revolve around the FBI’s changing story on Omar Al-Bouyimi. Twenty years after one of the most horrific days in American history, declassified FBI documents revealed Omar Al-Bayoumi, a Saudi national, aided two of the terrorists behind the attacks. “Declassified documents that came out 20 years later from the FBI said that the 9/11 Commission and the FBI absolutely were untruthful about Mohamed al-Bayoumi,” Ramaswamy said.

Haley's stance on military aid to Ukraine after Russia's 2022 invasion in particular puts her at odds with much of her party's rank-and-file. The campaign is making a strategic wager, advisers said, that Haley's full-throated support for Ukraine is more popular among voters looking to move past Trump, than with the Republican Party writ large. That position puts her in conflict with rivals, Republican front-runner Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Last year, for a column I was writing about the power that large asset managers like BlackRock and Vanguard exert over the global economy, I called up Vivek Ramaswamy. The first GOP presidential debate occurred on August 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. About a week prior, the New York Times published a debate strategy linked to DeSantis' super PAC. Ron DeSantis was reportedly "apoplectic" after media outlets published copies of debate strategy that were quietly shared online by a company closely connected to his super PAC. In mid-August, approximately a week before the first Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the New York Times released a report detailing pages of proposed debate strategy for DeSantis from his super PAC, Never Back Down. According to a report from the Washington Post on Friday, the media's publication of his potential debate strategy enraged DeSantis when he found out.

WASHINGTON, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Ten Republican candidates are seeking their party's nomination to take on Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden in the November 2024 election. DeSantis, 44, is Trump's top rival, but remains some 40 percentage points behind the former president in opinion polls. He is a fervent supporter of the former president and says he would pardon Trump should he win the White House. Haley has gained a reputation in the Republican Party as a solid conservative who has the ability to address issues of gender and race in a more credible fashion than many of her peers. CHRIS CHRISTIEChristie, 61, advised Trump's White House campaign, but became a vocal critic of the former president after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack.

Osaka was asked if her break from tennis made her miss it, to which she responded “definitely.”“I’ve been watching matches and I’m like, ‘I wish I was playing too,’” Osaka said. Osaka said she learned a lot from talking about her experiences with mental health and becoming an advocate for mental health awareness. “I definitely only know this world, the tennis world,” Osaka said.

CNN —President Joe Biden faces continued headwinds from broadly negative job ratings overall, widespread concerns about his age and decreased confidence among Democratic-aligned voters, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS. There is no clear leader in a potential rematch between Biden and former President Donald Trump, who is widely ahead in the GOP primary. And nearly half of registered voters (46%) say that any Republican presidential nominee would be a better choice than Biden in 2024. Record low share of Americans say Biden inspires confidenceViews of Biden’s performance in office and on where the country stands are deeply negative in the new poll. Despite voters’ strong opinions toward Trump, Biden fares no better against any other Republican hopefuls tested in the poll.

That has put pressure on risky EM currencies, echoing the dynamics observed last year when the Fed began raising rates. In the Sept. 1-6 poll, almost all beaten-down emerging market currencies were forecast to move little, or trade modestly higher against the dollar in a year, with some making small gains in three months. The underperformance of China has probably been the biggest story holding back EM currencies." Earlier this year, many analysts expected China's reopening to boost the yuan and other EM currencies, especially those exporting commodities to the world's second-largest economy, but this scenario did not unfold as anticipated. Through the end of this year, we believe most EM Asia currencies can weaken," said Nick Bennenbroek, international economist at Wells Fargo.

The suggestions by Mr. DeSantis and Mr. Ramaswamy that Jan. 6 rioters and conspirators were being punished more harshly than people who participated in Black Lives Matter protests align with Republicans’ broader grievances that the federal justice system has been “weaponized” against conservatives. But most of the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020, when the movement reached a peak, were peaceful. Those who had been sentenced at the time of the A.P. investigation had received prison terms of a little over two years on average. But of the more than 1,100 cases related to Jan. 6, according to an NPR database, the median sentence for those who received prison time has been 120 days.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is the cofounder of an "anti-woke" ETF firm. The company was set up last year and now manages assets worth more than $1 billion. Ramaswamy's firm is a riposte to the ESG-centric policies of some big investment firms. Last month he said the "big three" investment firms – BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard – represented "arguably the most powerful cartel in human history." Ramaswamy is vying with Florida governor Ron DeSantis for second place in opinion polls, but both lag some distance behind former President Donald Trump in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Racial and class segregation have also long shaped and limited access to public places. "The fundamental rule of public space is that what attracts people most is other people." So it's counterproductive to stop responsible drinkers from enjoying themselves in parks, at street fairs, and in other public places. Speaking of fighting, the IPO market has been KO'd since 2022. But that could change with one company's upcoming public debut. Even if it slightly misses those numbers, it'll still be the largest public debut in the US since Rivian's IPO in late 2021. The stock market recovered in record time, but then something else held up IPOs: VC money. CNN —There are two Republican primaries as an election season that defies conventional metrics and campaign trail traditions crashes into its fall stretch. Trump has already convinced millions of his supporters that he is the current legitimate president after his false claims of fraud in the 2020 election. Many of the candidates in the second tier appear to be running for the nomination of a Republican Party that may not even exist anymore. Given these numbers, why would Trump drop his boycott and attend the second GOP presidential debate at the Ronald Reagan library in California later this month? “We need to narrow it down to find a leader who can get the Republican Party back on the right track and that could get us back to winning elections again,” Hogan said.
