CNN —Biniam Girmay made history at this year’s Tour de France and the Eritrean cyclist wants to use his success to inspire others to follow his path. The Intermarche-Wanty rider, who previously became the first Black African to win a stage at the Giro d’Italia, now wants other Black riders to excel in the sport. “I’m convinced that my compatriots will be happy to hear that my future is intertwined with the team who gave me the opportunity to write important pages of African cycling history,” he said after signing his long-term contract. Only two other African riders, Robbie Hunter and Daryl Impey of South Africa, both White, had previously won stages at the Tour de France, per Reuters. He was previously married to Cora Schumacher and is the father to a son, David. The 49-year-old had an 11-year F1 career, driving for Jordan, Williams and Toyota and won six races along the way. Adidas then seemingly deleted any social media posts featuring her after criticism from Jewish groups and Israel. However, journalist Mehdi Hasan took issue with this line of criticism against Adidas and Hadid. “Bella Hadid has absolutely nothing in common with the 1972 terrorists – other than the fact that she is Palestinian,” Hasan posted on X. The Adidas controversy comes a week before the opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics.

Ford Motor said on Thursday it would retool a plant in Canada to produce large pickup trucks rather than the electric sport-utility vehicles it had previously planned to make there. Jim Farley, the chief executive of Ford, said the company’s two other Super Duty plants, in Kentucky and Ohio, were running at full capacity but couldn’t produce as many vehicles as its commercial customers wanted.
