Karin Svensson, chief sustainability officer of Volvo Group. We were setting the new strategy for the Volvo group. The numbers of electric trucks we sell are still quite small, but it’s a huge increase. It’s really really important that we really decrease our emissions by 2030, so we have set interim targets for all our business areas. We are now [testing] fuel-cell electric trucks and expect to have an offer ready toward the second half of this decade.

She asked about the situation in Ukraine and how much money Svitolina had raised for relief efforts. The Russians had just ramped up their attacks on Odesa, and I asked Svitolina about her grandmother. “I was super happy that kids in Ukraine could watch and get inspired,” she said. The foundation was sponsoring several junior tennis tournaments in Ukraine later in the summer. “I cannot even imagine how hard it is for the kids,” Svitolina said.

Ron DeSantis passed up an opportunity to name one reason voters should pick him over Donald Trump. At an event at J&J Ag Solutions, an "average voter" named Ethan Masters asked DeSantis, "So what's your biggest selling point when I'm in the voting stage and it's between you and Trump?" He'd be a lame duck on Day 1 even if he could get elected," DeSantis said. Trump leads DeSantis by nearly 40 points in most recent polls of GOP candidates. Representatives for DeSantis and Trump did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, sent outside regular business hours.

Under Missouri’s law, clinicians will not be allowed to treat any minor who is not already receiving gender transition care, which includes drugs that suppress puberty; hormone treatments with estrogen or testosterone; and, in rare cases, surgeries. The law will also affect transgender adults, as it bans Medicaid coverage of gender transition care for people of all ages in the state. Ms. Reed filed an affidavit about her experience in February and testified on Tuesday in favor of the ban. Chloe Cole, a 19-year-old who has frequently testified to state legislatures about regretting gender treatments she received as a younger teenager in California, also testified on behalf of the state of Missouri against the injunction. The plaintiffs in the legal challenge include three transgender minors who are seeking medical care to transition and will no longer be able to do so once the law is in effect.

Defending champions Canada, however, failed to make it through from their semi-final on Friday. Given their extraordinary depth and quality, the U.S. men have a woeful recent record in the event. They have not won an Olympic final since 2000 and have just one gold from the last seven World Championships amid a series of fumbles and disqualifications. Olympic champions Italy, with Tokyo individual gold medallist Lamont Marcell Jacobs running a barnstorming second leg, were impressive winners of the second heat in 37.65. South Africa finished second, with Britain overhauling Canada on the last leg for the third automatic qualifying spot as the holders failed to make the final.

It's a sad irony, but an irony nonetheless, that this week the European Space Agency announced that a piece of space debris — left in orbit by a 2013 launch of Arianespace's Vega rocket and the target of a removal mission — appears to have been struck by other space debris. But the ISS itself may have to dodge space debris this afternoon, with station controllers considering changing its altitude. The risk posed by space debris is not a novel problem for the industry, but it's an ever more pressing one. Satellites and space debris are largely tracked via ground-based radars and telescopes. Debris removal is a nascent part of the broader satellite servicing market (also known as In-Space Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing, or ISAM).

The small Midwestern gender clinic was buckling under an unrelenting surge in demand. Last year, dozens of young patients were seeking appointments every month, far too many for the clinic’s two psychologists to screen. Opened in 2017 inside a children’s hospital affiliated with Washington University in St. Louis, the prestigious clinic was welcomed by many families as a godsend. But as the number of these patients soared, the clinic became overwhelmed — and soon found itself at the center of a political storm. advocates have pointed to parents who disputed her account in local news reports and to a Washington University investigation that determined her claims were “unsubstantiated.”

Southeast Asia's second-largest economy has been hobbled by slackening global growth, led by its main trading partner China and falling investor confidence due to a protracted period without a government following elections in May. On a quarterly basis, GDP rose a seasonally adjusted 0.2% in the June quarter, also sharply under a forecast rise of 1.2%. The global demand weakness prompted the government to cut its 2023 GDP growth forecast to between 2.5% and 3.0% from a range of 2.7% to 3.7%. As weak global demand crimps exports, Thailand's economy has been supported by its vital tourism sector and private consumption growth. It projected exports to drop 1.8% in 2023 versus an earlier forecast for a 1.6% fall.

But I don’t think we’re all aware of the age beliefs. To do that, researchers like him are targeting the essential biology of aging – the underlying reasons why we get old. When those biological processes fail or break down, we get sick – and aging is the biggest risk factor for that deterioration. In the meantime, though, remember this: Aging is probably not nearly as bad as you might imagine. And as my mom told me, we should all truly embrace getting older, because it sure as heck beats the alternative.

Critics have pointed to drag shows and the use of critical race theory, both of which Milley said are overstated. Milley, the nation's highest-ranking military officer, said he supported Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's decision to ban drag shows at military bases after some Republican lawmakers sparked an outcry. Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican, who criticized the drag shows, called the Pentagon's new policy a "HUGE VICTORY." Critics have also taken aim at critical race theory, an academic theory that looks at America's history of racism and discrimination through a modern lens. Already, three military services are without a Senate-confirmed leader, the first time that's happened in the nation's history.

Abating inflation pressure will help the central bank focus on cutting interest rates while helping stocks, according to Fundstrat managing partner and head of research Tom Lee. The Nasdaq Composite has been on fire so far this year with a 38% gain, aided in large part by an explosion in growth of tech stocks like Apple , Google-parent company Alphabet and Microsoft . Lee said that the lauded Invesco QQQ ETF , which largely tracks nonfinancial stocks trading on the Nasdaq, will outperform the S & P 500 for the remainder of 2023. "I think the triple Q's, which is very heavily exposed to tech, will probably outperform the S & P into year end. If we think the S & P has 10% upside into year-end, the triple Q's could be 15%," he said.
