Hundreds of individuals were accused of witchcraft in what would become the Commonwealth of Massachusetts between 1638 and 1693. Another accused Boston witch, known as Goodwife Ann Glover or Goody Glover, was hanged in the city in 1688. Jane Swift signed a bill exonerating five women executed during the witch trials in Salem. Nineteen were hanged during the Salem witch trials while a 20th victim was pressed to death. Johnson is believed to be the last accused Salem witch to have her conviction set aside.

The historic United Auto Workers strike is over. The UAW announced Monday evening it had reached a tentative agreement with GM, the last of the Detroit car companies to complete negotiations. The 25% pay increases by April 2028 agreed to in the new contracts raise top pay to about $42 an hour, according to the union. For historical comparison, the union said its workers saw pay increases of 23% for all the years from 2001 through 2022. Ford was the first to notch a tentative agreement with the union on Oct. 25 after employees spent 41 days on strike.

November is typically an outperforming month for Wall Street, according to data from the "Stock Trader's Almanac." The benchmark S & P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average have each historically posted an average gain of 1.7% in November, dating back to 1950. Those moves make November the strongest month of the year for the S & P 500 and the second-best month for both the Nasdaq and the 30-stock Dow, according to the almanac. The S & P 500 has slipped roughly 3% so far and is on track for a third-straight month of declines . The string of monthly losses would mark the first such occurrence for the S & P 500 since the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

A restaurant in North Carolina shut down after claiming that smoke from a cigar bar next door caused health issues. Two months later, it filed a lawsuit against the owner of Oasis Cigar Lounge as well as its landlord, local news site WRAL first reported. Other tenants in the building similarly had issues with secondhand smoke from the cigar lounge, he claimed. Oasis Cigar Lounge, meanwhile, left its premises in the shopping center in early October, it told The Local Reporter. "We simply did not want cigar smoke and toxins in our business."
