CNN —Democrat Angela Alsobrooks will win the Maryland Senate race, CNN projects, defeating Republican former Gov. Her victory is a relief for Democrats, who were facing a daunting Senate landscape before this race came on the map. Neither made their history-making potential a key message on the trail, but it was resonant in a state where Black voters – and Black women in particular – are a crucial part of the electorate. Alsobrooks’ home turf of Prince George’s County is home to one of the largest middle-class Black populations in the country. The Democratic Party quickly united around Alsobrooks, who already had the backing of most of the state’s congressional delegation.

Reuters —Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday ordered a crackdown on sex in government offices after private videos leaked on social media appeared to show a senior finance ministry official having sex with several women in various places, including his office. The government said it was taking action because the videos had denigrated the tiny Central African country’s image. Equatorial Guinea has been ruled by the same president for decades and the scandal has been shaking the government since the videos first emerged last week. The women featured in the videos appeared to include wives of other powerful government figures and other family members, local media said. President Teodoro Obiang has ruled Equatorial Guinea, a nation of some 1.7 million people on the west coast of Central Africa for 45 years and is the world’s longest-serving president.

ArizonaThe Arizona Abortion Access Act would enshrine the right to an abortion in the state constitution up to fetal viability, around 22 to 24 weeks into pregnancy. Abortion rights supporters say the moment served as a stark reminder of what could come if reproductive rights aren’t enshrined in the state constitution. ColoradoThe Colorado Right to Abortion and Health Insurance Coverage Initiative would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and approve the use of public funds for abortion. In Nevada, an amendment must be passed in two successive general elections before it can be added to the state constitution. While proponents have focused on abortion rights, opponents have used the measure’s broad nature to raise concerns about transgender and parental issues.

If this week's presidential election has you nervously eyeing your finances, you're not alone. Consider research published earlier this year from Carson Research Group, which tracked the performance of the S&P 500 under every presidency since 1953. If you followed the same strategy, but only invested with Democrats, you'd have about $60,000. "If you got out of the market because you didn't like the person who was in office, you gave up some really great gains," says Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at the Carson Group. Some pediatricians are stunned by the possibility that vaccines proven to save kids’ lives could be banned in a second Trump administration. “I have watched a child die in the hospital of a vaccine-preventable illness because her parents refused to vaccinate her.
