The fire broke out late on Sunday and there were no injuries, the airport said. Firefighters said they managed to contain the blaze about 90 minutes after it was called in, but provided no details on possible causes or any link to current high temperatures in the region. Flights at the Sicilian airport, which according to the Assoaeroporti sector group, ranked fifth for traffic in Italy last year and first on the island, have been suspended until 1200 GMT on Wednesday, the company said. The Catania airport is regularly used by tourists heading to places like Mount Etna and Taormina, which is about 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) away, and Siracusa, with its Greek Theatre and the historical centre on the Ortigia island.

CNN —At least two people were killed and one person is missing after a fire broke out Friday at the Nohoch Alfa offshore platform at the Bay of Campeche, in the Gulf of Mexico, the state-owned oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) said in a statement. Some 321 workers out of the 328 who were working on the structure when the fire started have already been evacuated, according to Pemex. Four boats have been sent to control the fires on the oil platform. The state-owned oil company said earlier that at least six were injured. A white powder was found inside the White House late Sunday, which led to a temporary closure. Firefighters identified the material as "cocaine hydrochloride," the Washington Post reported. The Secret Service told Reuters an "unknown" item was indeed found there. The material was found in the West Wing, the spokesperson added, which is a part of the White House connected to the executive mansion, where the president lives. According to the Washington Post, a Washington DC firefighter on the hazardous materials team said the test results for the substance showed "a yellow bar saying cocaine hydrochloride."
