Europe, however, should fare better this year thanks to the restart of the Stolberg lead smelter in Germany. The difference between the pace of production and usage recovery explains the narrowing global supply gap this year.

But in several European countries, taking five weeks of paid vacation per year is a legal right. Swedish workers are guaranteed up to four consecutive weeks of paid summer holiday. For some lucky Americans, that might mean two weeks of paid time off and an occasional summer Friday. While two weeks of vacation may feel indulgent by US standards, employees in European Union member states have the legal right to at least four weeks of paid vacation per year — and some countries require employers to give their workers even more. From France to Austria, these are the nine European countries where companies are required to give their staff a minimum of five weeks of paid vacation per year.

VIENNA, May 10 (Reuters) - Austria will join the growing list of countries banning Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok from government employees' work phones, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said on Wednesday. Various Western countries including Britain, the United States and several other European Union member states have already barred TikTok over security concerns. The EU's two biggest policymaking institutions also banned the app in March. "It will be banned from work mobile phones. On private phones outside the state network it will of course be possible (to use the app)," Karner told reporters before a weekly cabinet meeting when asked if politicians in government would be able to keep using the app.

VIENNA — Ferdinand Habsburg-Lothringen sometimes goes for runs around the 1,441-room Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburg rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He loves taking in the manicured gardens, the mazes, one of the world’s oldest zoos still in existence, and one of the largest Baroque orangeries in the world. But once in a while things can feel a little weird in a way that is unique to Mr. Habsburg. “There is a bedroom inside the palace that would have been mine if I was crown prince,” he said, noting that he knows which one it is. Before him, other ancestors ruled for more than 600 years, presiding over a vast global empire.

LONDON, May 4 (Reuters) - Arsenal's Austria defender Laura Wienroither is the latest player in the women's game to rupture an anterior cruciate ligament after the club confirmed her injury on Thursday. Wienroither, 24, sustained the injury in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final defeat by Wolfsburg on Monday. She is the fourth Arsenal player to rupture an ACL this season after England captain Leah Williamson, England forward Beth Mead and Netherlands striker Vivianne Miedema. Studies have found women in sports that involve sudden deceleration or changing direction such as soccer are up to six times more likely to suffer an ACL injury than men. The prevalence of injuries in women's soccer in recent times has led to calls for better research.
Austria's Robert Holzmann was the sole holdout as the euro zone's central bankers decided on a 25-basis-point rate increase, but he lacked voting rights due to a scheduled rotation on the ECB's Governing Council, the sources said. Holzmann did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and an ECB spokesman declined to comment. Some policymakers, they said, privately anticipate at least two if not three more hikes by the ECB, which has already raised rates seven times since last July by a total 375 basis points. Policymakers at Thursday's meeting were unanimous that the ECB should not sell bonds under its APP even after it stops replacing those that mature in July, the sources said. The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna has a tiny collection of marbles - just two fragments from the Parthenon's northern frieze. But Greece hopes that with each agreement to return pieces to Athens there will be growing "positive momentum" in talks on returning pieces being kept elsewhere. "I am very hopeful that the talks can move on very quickly and the marbles will be on display in Athens." Dendias said the talks were important in the context of discussions about bigger collections, particularly that the British Museum in London. "The regional government of Sicily in 2022 and Pope Francis in 2023 returned to Greece part of the Parthenon sculptures so this will be the third one and this for us is of huge, huge importance," Dendias said.

CNN —“Pretty, are you sitting down?” South African soprano Pretty Yende was performing in Vienna last December when she received a call from her manager. She had just been booked for the biggest gig of her life: a performance at the coronation of King Charles III. As one of three soloists at the ceremony, it’s thought that Yende is the first African to be invited to perform solo at a British coronation. The coronation will not be the first time King Charles has watched Yende perform; he saw the soprano sing at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s 75th anniversary gala, held at Windsor Castle in April 2022. Pretty Yende performs in "Lucia Di Lammermoor" at the Bastille Opera House in Paris in October 2016.
