The number of Republican women in the House has tripled to a record 36, including two nonvoting members. Others involved in the effort to boost GOP women are also hopeful they can reach a new milestone this year. The number of House candidates has dropped overall since 2022, a redistricting year that brought a surge of new candidates. The Center for Women and Politics found the steepest drop was among Republican women. For Stefanik, the effort to recruit more GOP women to run for the House has been a resounding success.

Ohio Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno is facing a wave of criticism over his remarks about suburban women and abortion heading into the homestretch of the competitive race. Read previewAfter months of having to defend his age, President Joe Biden seems willing to discuss it — and its limitations — openly. Sitting for an interview on "The View" on Wednesday, he subtly acknowledged how age factored into his decision to drop out of the election. While Biden stopped short of pinning his decision on his age alone, he openly hinted at the toll being an 86-year-old president would have taken. At his State of the Union speech in March, Biden simultaneously joked about and worked hard to justify his age. When Whoopi Goldberg, one of the hosts, compared Trump to a bug, Biden slapped the table, miming killing the insect to raucous applause.

Protesters demonstrate outside the Labour Party conference venue in Liverpool against the withdrawal of the winter fuel allowance, on September 23, 2024. “It has felt a bit blunt,” a Labour Member of Parliament admitted after Starmer’s speech Tuesday, summing up the sentiment across much of conference. Unfortunately, the realities of governing are beginning to bite the Labour Party – and it is likely he will need to show some returns far sooner. Starmer’s speech was was light on fresh content but a heckler was calmly removed and the key messages were confidently delivered. The stopgap spending bill, which will fund the government until December 20, will next be sent to President Joe Biden to be signed into law. Johnson had said that he believes Trump understands that House Republicans don’t have the votes to pass the SAVE Act. The House vote was 341 to 82 with 132 Republicans and 209 Democrats voting in favor and 82 Republicans voting against. As that internal contest nears, Johnson’s own leadership deputies are working to shore up their own relationships across the House GOP. In recent days, for instance, Emmer’s team gave personally engraved hockey sticks to several House Republicans that thanked them for their service to the chamber.

The stock market could jump as much as 10% by the year-end, Citi's stock-trading strategy head said. He said the economy only needs to avoid a recession, which will ultimately depend on the labor market. And that is now a plausible scenario," the firm's head of US equity-trading strategy told Bloomberg TV on Tuesday. If this is achieved, stocks can surge another 5% to 10% by the end of this year, Kaiser said. But though the Fed emphasized that it was not forecasting a looming downturn during its latest policy meeting, it all hinges on incoming labor market data, he noted.

Whether at your place of work or in your personal life, relationships can be tough to build — but some have a knack for it. "The way that highly successful people build relationships is really not taking your relationships for granted," life coach Francesca Hogi told CNBC Make It at the Fast Company Innovation Festival. Another thing successful people do is develop a sense of self-awareness about how they interact with other people. "I think of it as doing an audit" of relationships, says Hogi. On the flip side, "maybe I'm good at showing up at a time of crisis," adds Hogi, "and that's great, but maybe I'm not as engaged when things are going well."
