You Deserve a Great Nap
  + stars: | 2023-11-23 | by ( Alice Callahan | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
You can’t beat coffee for a morning pick-me-up, but as the day wears on, energy levels can slump. Sleep scientists have a better idea: Take a nap. A nap is “like a performance-enhancing drug without the drug part,” said Jade Wu, a sleep psychologist and researcher at Duke University. But a good nap is as much art as science, and can take some practice to master. The best time to nap is about six to eight hours after you wake up in the morning, said Sara Mednick, a professor of cognitive science at the University of California, Irvine.

Wales miss automatic Euro 2024 place after draw with Turkey

CARDIFF, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Wales will have to take their chances in the playoffs for Euro 2024 after the country's automatic qualifying hopes were dashed following a 1-1 draw with Turkey in their final Group D game on Tuesday. Needing to beat Turkey to have a chance of qualifying at the expense of Croatia, who were hosting Armenia, Wales made a dream start as Neco Williams fired them ahead after seven minutes. Hope then ebbed further away when Yusuf Yazici equalised for Turkey from the penalty spot after 70 minutes. "We're disappointed we haven't qualified automatically, but I'm off tomorrow to find out who we've got in the draw for the playoff. Turkey improved in the second half though and were awarded a soft-looking penalty when Wales skipper Ben Davies was harshly-adjudged to have fouled Kenan Yildiz.

Staying well-informed on politics, news, and world events, especially these days, can take a toll on your mental health. "Trauma is the air that we have been breathing in the 2020s," says Katharine Manning, an expert with more than 25 years of experience of handling distress in the workplace. "We aren't going to be good at supporting others if we are not taking care of ourselves," Manning says. It feels dumb to wash my face, and dumb not to. The deal, one of the biggest globally when announced in May 2022, was the latest in CEO Hock Tan's efforts to boost the chipmaker's software business. However, the transaction faced tough regulatory scrutiny across the world and the companies had delayed the closing date three times. Big Tech mergers such as Microsoft's (MSFT.O) now-closed $69 billion purchase of the "Call of Duty" publisher Activision have faced heightened regulatory pressure from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission under its Chair Lina Khan.

Markets were buoyant ahead of Asia trading and the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., with stocks resuming their massive rally this month that has been fueled by hopes of a more benign interest rate backdrop. Japanese markets were also set to be closed for a national holiday on Thursday. While speculation that the Bank of Japan could exit from negative interest rates early next year stands to help stabilize the yen, the Japanese currency still faces strong headwinds. CNN —Tom Brady may have called time on his football career, but that hasn’t stopped him from keeping a close eye on the NFL this season. Asked why he felt that way, Brady added: “I think the coaching isn’t as good as it was. “I think the rules have allowed a lot of bad habits to get into the actual performance of the game. It’s not up to a defensive player to protect an offensive player. Skewed the game so that players don’t have to be as skilled to be productive.”

But "we continue to think that Fed officials are most likely done raising rates this cycle." "Inflation does seem to be settling," Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin told Fox Business on Monday.
