Accusers stepped forward in 2018, as the #MeToo movement was taking off. Victims of sexual violence, consequently, often say they feel less isolated than they used to. Last week, Tesla laid off most of its electric car charging team, raising doubts about the feasibility of the Biden administration’s ambitious E.V. Though Tesla accounts for more than half of the fast E.V. chargers currently installed in the United States, and though it has continued to build them faster and cheaper than anyone else, the E.V. charging market may no longer need Tesla to lead it. The administration’s goal is to build a network of a half million fast and slow chargers in the country by 2030, more than double what the U.S. has today.

CNN —Adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who is expected to testify Tuesday in former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York, is a key figure in the controversy over a 2016 “hush money” payment allegedly made to Daniels on Trump’s behalf. In her book, Daniels said Cohen threatened to sue shortly after an interview she did with the parent company of Life & Style and In Touch magazine in 2011. Trump dismissed a composite sketch of the man she alleged threatened her, calling it “a total con job” in a 2018 tweet. Biden faces widening partisan split over Israel

CNN —President Joe Biden is facing more critical moments this week that will test his fraught relationship with his base over Israel’s war in Gaza and potentially widen the partisan split about the Jewish state that has been building for years. Against this backdrop, partisan polarization about Israel among American voters was already widening years before the brutal Hamas attack last October and the devastating Israeli response it triggered. An array of polls this spring show how the war in Gaza has hardened this partisan split. Nearly half of Democrats, but only a little over one-fifth of Republicans in the CBS poll, said the US should pressure Israel to stop the fighting. “Biden has a Democratic caucus that is putting a lot of faith in this process,” she said.

New York City’s congestion pricing program is scheduled to begin charging tolls to drive into the busiest parts of Manhattan next month, with the aim of generating a $15 billion windfall for the mass transit system. That money would not translate into lower fares or a huge subway expansion. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which oversees congestion pricing, has already earmarked the entire $15 billion for long-planned projects. Since congestion pricing has yet to get off the ground, the M.T.A. And now that $15 billion accounts for half the money the authority is expecting to finance its remaining projects.

CNN —The news this week that Elon Musk laid off Tesla’s entire Supercharger team sent shockwaves of uncertainty through the industry tasked with building America’s new network of EV chargers. A fast and reliable charging network is an essential ingredient in getting more people to switch from gas-powered vehicles to electric, and some early types of chargers proved less than dependable. Tesla had a superior charging network long before President Joe Biden set an ambitious goal to install half a million stations around the US by the end of the decade. “There are many, many charging companies out there,” an EV industry source told CNN. “Charging is a difficult business, there’s no doubt about that,” the EV industry source said.

Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, blindsided competitors, suppliers and his own employees this week by reversing course on his aggressive push to build electric vehicle chargers in the United States, a major priority of the Biden administration. It put the onus on other charging companies, raising questions about whether they can build fast enough to address a shortage that appears to be discouraging some people from buying electric cars. As the owner of the largest charging network in the United States, Tesla has a powerful effect on people’s views of electric cars. “There is certainly a psychological component,” said Robert Zabors, a senior partner at Roland Berger, a consulting firm. “Availability and reliability are critical to overall E.V.

AdvertisementHistorically, a hedge fund's chief investment office or senior portfolio manager was responsible for vetting and wooing key investment hires. They can also help hedge funds save on outside recruiting costs, which can add up to tens of millions a year. Hedge funds targeted institutional salespeople at investment banks with exposure to hedge funds, as well as asset allocators with chops in portfolio-manager selection and due diligence. Assets at multimanager hedge funds have boomed since 2018. The principle may work for fictional baseball diamonds, but the reality at hedge funds is more complicated.

Jerry Nehl Boylan was found guilty in 2023 of one federal felony count of misconduct or neglect of ship officer last year. Thirty-three passengers and one crew member below deck died of smoke inhalation, police said. Thirty-four people were killed in the boat fire. Tesla has laid off most of its charging team, causing confusion about the future of its Supercharger network. Virtually all major automakers have adopted Tesla's charging techTesla has committed to doubling its network size in-party with public money. Advertisement"I got a bounce from every email address," said Andres Pinter, co-CEO of Bullet EV Charging Solutions, which has about a dozen ongoing projects underway for Tesla. The automakers Tesla partnered with can already access existing plugs, but the recent layoffs raise questions about the network's future growth. All three major indexes broke five-month winning streaks as hotter-than-expected inflation data stoked fears that interest rate cuts will come later than forecast. The central bank kept interest rates on hold at a 23-year high at its policy meeting. Persistent inflation has kept long-anticipated rate cuts on the backburner.
