Mexico City CNN —Heavy rains associated with Hurricane Beryl and the earlier Tropical Storm Alberto have led at least 200 crocodiles to enter urban areas in the northern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, across from Texas, state and federal authorities said this week. So far, authorities say they have captured and relocated around 200 of the big reptiles since Alberto pelted the region with rain in June. Beryl brushed the same area before making landfall in south Texas earlier this week. Authorities said the heavy rains raised water levels in coastal lagoons, leading the animals to crawl into cities like Tampico and the nearby cities of Ciudad Madero and Altamira, where at least 165 crocodiles have been captured and relocated. A new report from Moody's on Wednesday warns that generative AI and deepfakes are among the election integrity issues that could present a risk to U.S. institutional credibility. In a letter to Rosenworcel, it encouraged the FCC to delay its decision until after the elections because its changes would not be mandatory across digital political ads. Some social media platforms have already self-adopted some sort of AI disclosure ahead of regulations. Google requires all political ads with modified content that "inauthentically depicts real or realistic-looking people or events" to have disclosures, but doesn't require AI disclosures on all political ads. Thirteen states have laws on election interference and deepfakes, eight of which were enacted since January.

Elon Musk said Wednesday that his brain tech startup Neuralink hopes to implant its system in a second human patient within "the next week or so." No BCI company has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to commercialize their devices. In a livestream with Neuralink executives Wednesday, Musk said the company is hoping to implant its device in the "high single digits" of patients this year. However, in the weeks following the procedure, Neuralink said some threads from the implant retracted from Arbaugh's brain. Musk and the Neuralink executives said during Wednesday's livestream that only around 15% of the channels in Arbaugh's implant are functional.
