☆ Americans’ debt is growing — but so are incomes

CNN —Americans are continuing to pile on debt at record levels — but for many households, those IOUs are completely manageable, according to new data released Wednesday. Balances grew across all major debt categories, with credit cards and auto loans continuing to see the biggest gains. However, by and large, most households have been able to handle that rising debt: Their after-tax income has grown even more, according to the New York Fed. Disposable personal income hit $21.8 trillion in the third quarter, bringing the total debt balance to income ratio to 82%. And, for 18 months running, that pay growth has outpaced inflation, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Wednesday.

☆ Spirit Airlines shares plunge on bankruptcy speculation

A Wall Street Journal report Tuesday evening said a bankruptcy filing is expected to happen within weeks, as talks with Frontier Airlines to possibly buy Spirit (SAVE) broke down recently. Because of those discussions, the company said, Spirit is unable able to complete its third-quarter financial report by the prescribed time. While Spirit management tried to move ahead with the Frontier deal, its shareholders rejected the offer and Spirit ultimately agreed to the JetBlue deal instead. It argued such a combination would hurt airline passengers because it would reduce the number of inexpensive airline tickets — putting upward pressure on airfares overall. In January 2024 a federal judge agreed with DOJ’s argument and blocked the JetBlue deal.

Piglet’s Big Game, released as a tie-in with the Disney film “Piglet’s BIG Adventure,” follows the beloved character as he enters the dreams of his “Winnie the Pooh” friends. At some point in the game, Piglet realizes that his friends have all fallen asleep and he must then enter their dreams to complete tasks and help them wake up. Piglet’s Big Game was released on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, GameBoy Advanced, Mac and PC, but each iteration varies in gameplay. Many gamers who saw the viral videos drew comparison to popular horror games they play regularly. Disney Games also did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the recent interest in Piglet’s Big Game.
