On Wednesday, tech company IBM announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will form part of Wimbledon’s tennis commentary this year, apparently helping fans to engage with the tournament “on a deeper level.”According to a press release from IBM, which has developed the AI commentary tool, the new feature will be used for all video highlights packages during Wimbledon. “Its introduction this year is a step towards making commentary available in an exciting way for matches outside of Wimbledon’s Show Courts, which already have live human commentary,” the press release said. It added that experts had worked with Wimbledon organizers “to train the AI in the unique language of tennis.”Wimbledon already uses AI to provide match insights, highlight reels, and a power index leaderboard. This year, as well as the video commentary, AI will also be used to provide a draw analysis, calculating a player’s chances of reaching the final in the singles draw. “You can’t replace John McEnroe doing commentary, that human element always needs to be there,” said Farrar, according to The Telegraph.

CNN —A record $56.6 million (£44.7 million) in prize money will be available at this year’s Wimbledon, the All England Club announced on Wednesday. That represents an 11.2% increase on last year’s prize pot, with the men’s and women’s singles champions each receiving close to $3 million (£2.35 million) and the runners-up almost $1.5 million (£1.175). Wimbledon had reduced prize money for its two flagship matches during the pandemic, but the payout for reaching the finals of the singles competitions is now the same as in 2019. “We are delighted to offer record prize money to the players competing at The Championships this year, with double digit increases across the majority of events,” said Ian Hewitt, chairman of the All England Club. Novak Djokovic, who won a men’s record 23rd grand slam title at the French Open this month, will defend his singles titles, while Elena Rybakina will defend the women’s crown after claiming her first grand slam title last year.

June 15 (Reuters) - Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez, who will retire this season after 25 years on the ATP Tour, was appointed tournament director of the Davis Cup Finals on Thursday. Lopez, who has been the Madrid Open's tournament director since 2019, is a four-time Davis Cup champion and reached a career-high ranking of world number 12. "I've been doing this for the last four years with Madrid and in the beginning it was a big challenge for me," Lopez told Reuters. "No more tennis, and I can focus on the Davis Cup." Sixteen teams will compete in the Finals group stage from Sept. 12-17 across Manchester, Bologna, Valencia and Croatia.

LONDON, June 14 (Reuters) - The total prize money on offer at Wimbledon has risen to a record 44.7 million pounds ($56.52 million) for the Championships this year, a 11.2% increase on 2022, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) said on Wednesday. Winners and runners-up of the men's and women's singles finals will also see their prize money rising to previous levels in 2019, where they received 2.35 million pounds and 1.175 million pounds, respectively. The prize money for winners fell to 1.7 million pounds in 2021 before it was increased to 2 million pounds last year. June 14 (Reuters) - Venus Williams' return to action following a five-month injury layoff ended in defeat as the seven-times Grand Slam champion fell to Swiss teenager Celine Naef in three sets at the Libema Open grasscourt tournament in Rosmalen, Netherlands. The former world number one, a five-times winner at Wimbledon, lost 3-6 7-6 (6-3) 6-2 to 17-year-old Naef in two hours and 18 minutes. "I cannot believe I had the chance to play against Venus," Naef said after her first win on the WTA Tour. She won her last major singles title at the grasscourt Grand Slam in 2008. This year's Wimbledon tournament begins on July 3.
