An Alaska man has been indicted on charges that he sent racist and violent threats against six Supreme Court justices and their family members. New York CNN —A group of news organizations filed an emergency petition Thursday, asking Nevada’s highest court to unseal the ongoing family succession battle playing out in a Reno courtroom that will determine the future of Rupert Murdoch’s vast media empire. But his three other eldest children, who have more moderate views, are fighting the change. The Murdoch case was only revealed after The New York Times published a report revealing its existence in July. “The public has immense interest in which of Murdoch’s children will succeed him,” the news outlets said in their petition. In its petition to the high court, the news outlets argued that selective redactions can be made to protect truly private information.

"Ultimately shirking fiduciary responsibility to employees, consumers, and shareholders." Twenty civil rights organizations sent a letter Thursday to Fortune 1000 companies calling for them to recommit to diversity, equity and inclusion, after several major companies scaled back their efforts. She emphasized that LGBTQ+ consumers have $1.4 trillion of buying power, as reported by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce. But a small, well-funded, and extreme group of right-wing activists is attempting to pressure companies into abandoning their DEI programs. Abandoning DEI will have long-term consequences on business success -- ultimately shirking fiduciary responsibility to employees, consumers, and shareholders.

In today’s edition, we explore one positive and on negative development for Kamala Harris' support from organized labor. The influential Teamsters union on Wednesday declined to issue an endorsement in the presidential race, Megan Lebowitz and Alexandra Marquez report. Prior to the announcement, the Teamsters also released survey data showing more rank-and-file members preferred to endorse Trump than Harris. Still, Harris has won the endorsement of just about every other major labor union in the country (the International Association of Fire Fighters remains a notable holdout). Instead, the Trump campaign appears to be approaching this apparent assassination attempt as an opportunity rather than as a moment to reflect.

Most rejected ballots are tossed out for arriving after Election Day, but thousands have been rejected for missing signatures and similar paperwork errors. Pennsylvania's mail ballots have once again been the subject of a major election-year legal battle. The state Supreme Court ruled last week that mail ballots with improper dates can't be counted. Looking ahead to November, clerks in Pennsylvania still won’t be able to process any mail ballots before Election Day, meaning it could again take days to count them.
