Billionaire investor and hedge fund veteran John Paulson said Friday that he would like to see the Federal Reserve start big with its rate cuts. The central bankers seem to be deciding between a cut of 25 basis points or 50 basis points. One asset class that often rises when the Federal Reserve cuts rate is gold, and Paulson is a longtime bull on the yellow metal. Paulson is a veteran figure in the hedge fund world and is perhaps most famous for betting against the housing market ahead of the 2007 crash. Paulson announced in 2020 that he was converting his hedge fund into a family office.

Nvidia 's wild price swings are having a strong hold on the entire market, and "insane" options trading in the chipmaker could be the culprit. While some believe Wednesday's advance was driven by CEO Jensen Huang's bullish comments about artificial intelligence , others think the action was mostly triggered by the explosion of short-term options trading activity in Nvidia. "I don't think yesterday's +8% ripper in the stock was fundamentally driven," Wells Fargo trading desk said in a note to clients Thursday. The desk pointed to a host of Nvidia call options that are set to expire on Friday, and which were the most actively-traded contracts Wednesday. PHILADELPHIA — Former President Donald Trump found out Tuesday night that he's got a much tougher rival on his hands now. Harris, eager to portray herself as different from both Trump and Biden, reminded him that Biden won't be on the ballot. Trump said Harris has had 3½ years to make the changes she promises to make and argued the Biden-Harris administration squandered progress Trump gave them. Trump and Harris also clashed over the 2020 election, with Trump again falsely claiming that he won. Throughout the debate, Harris needled Trump in ways that undermined his self-image as a popular, strong leader whom American’s adversaries fear.

Investors haven't become super pessimistic on stocks since the recent volatility bout began. Specifically, the firm's Crowd Sentiment Poll — a gauge for intermediate market sentiment — shows excessive optimism among investors after dipping to neutral last month. NDR's nearer-term daily trading composite, meanwhile, points to more neutral sentiment. Wall Street is also anxiously looking ahead to the U.S. presidential election in November. So bottom line: It may take another bout of selling to shake out the weak bullish investors and restart the long-term trend.
