England's Curry banned for Japan, Chile games

A statement from World Rugby said: "The player accepted that foul play occurred and that the offence warranted a red card. England are already without captain Owen Farrell and number eight Billy Vunipola for the Japan game as they serve out the final game of their suspensions. Curry's was their fourth red in six matches, though Freddie Steward's against Ireland in the Six Nations was rescinded. Earlier on Tuesday England assistant coach Richard Wigglesworth said the red card was the result of a "fast-moving game." “You will appreciate that I can’t talk around this instance or any other that may affect pre-hearing,” he said.

"I think it's a huge concern," Vikram Nidamaluri, managing director of telecom, media, and entertainment at Lazard, said during a panel at the World Satellite Business Week conference on Monday. "Having such a dominant launch provider is probably not healthy just in general for the commercial prospects of the industry," Nidamaluri added. Nidamaluri echoed concerns about a rocket launch monopoly raised by others in the space industry this year. Rocket launches are a potential bottleneck in the process of flying valuable satellites, spacecraft, and astronauts in orbit. Beyond the U.S. rocket market, SpaceX leads the world in both launches and spacecraft mass delivered to orbit each quarter.

A Russian mercenary group listed equipment failings that troops are suffering on the front line. The group, known as Rusich, said soldiers were buying their own communications equipment. The report didn't specify what kinds of communications technology Russian troops were buying, but there have long been reports that Russian soldiers lack the equipment to communicate effectively and so use cell phones or their own radio systems. "High-precision ammunition, communications equipment, drones etc... We have them, but unfortunately, there is not enough." The problem has persisted despite a ban last year on Russian forces using cell phones on the front line.

The tribunal will issue an advisory opinion, which is not legally binding, but offers an authoritative statement on legal matters that could guide countries as they craft climate protection law. The prime ministers, representing the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law (COSIS), will argue that countries have an obligation to protect the marine environment under the UN convention on the Law of the Sea, including from greenhouse gas emissions. Low-lying island states like Tuvalu and Vanuatu are also at risk of becoming submerged by water by the end of the century due to slow-onset climate impacts. The following is adapted from Walter Isaacson's biography "Elon Musk," publishing Sept. 12. "Hey, I'd love to come see you and talk about philanthropy and climate," Bill Gates said to Elon Musk when they happened to be at the same meeting in early 2022. In the rarefied fraternity of people who have held the title of richest person on Earth, Musk and Gates have some similarities. Gates had shorted Tesla stock, placing a big bet that it would go down in value. "How can someone say they are passionate about fighting climate change and then do something that reduced the overall investment in the company doing the most?"

The declaration also underscored the potential of digital technologies to increase inclusion in global economies. The president joined other leaders in announcing a project to create a rail and shipping corridor linking India to the Middle East and, eventually, Europe. It was a promise of new technological and trade pathways, they said, in a part of the world where deeper economic cooperation was overdue. The project lacked key details, including a time frame or budget. Even so, it represented much softer than usual rhetoric about Russia from Mr. Biden and other Western leaders, who have spent the better part of two years spending billions on arming Ukraine and burning untold domestic political capital building support for the war.

Michelle Lujan Grisham's emergency order suspending the right to carry firearms in public in and around Albuquerque drew an immediate court challenge from a gun-rights group Saturday, as legal scholars and advocates said they expected. The governor, a Democrat, said the 30-day suspension, enacted as an emergency public health measure, would apply in most public places, from city sidewalks to parks. The top Republican in the New Mexico Senate, Greg Baca of Belen, also denounced Lujan Grisham’s order as an infringement on the gun rights of law-abiding citizens. Levinson said she was not aware of any other governor taking a step as restrictive as Lujan Grisham. “I don’t think it will be a political loss for (Lujan Grisham) to be overturned,” Levinson said.

Since its first leaders’ summit in 2008, China’s top leader has always attended the gathering – including by video link during the Covid pandemic. Now, “China sees the G20 space as increasingly oriented toward the US and its agenda, which Xi Jinping regards as hostile to China,” Werner said. All the while, Xi has only made two trips abroad this year – and both are central to his attempt to reshape the global world order. Next month, the Chinese leader is expected to host the Belt and Road Forum to mark the 10th anniversary of his global infrastructure and trade initiative – a key element in Beijing’s new global governance structure.

Kroger on Friday said it has agreed to pay $1.2 billion to U.S. states, subdivisions and Native American tribes to settle the majority claims that it fueled the opioid epidemic through lax oversight of its pill sales. Still, the company said the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing or liability. "Kroger will continue to vigorously defend against any other claims and lawsuits relating to opioids that the final agreement does not resolve," the company said in the releaseThis is breaking news.

Indian artist Jagjot Singh Rubal gives final touches to an oil painting of U.S. President Joe Biden, at his workshop in Amritsar on September 5, 2023, ahead of the two-day G20 summit in New Delhi. The pair's absence has sparked fears that a communique binding member states may not be issued at the end of a G20 leaders' summit — undercutting India's clout and diminishing his domestic messaging. At a pre-summit press conference Friday, India's G20 sherpa Amitabh Kant said the final declaration "is almost ready." In their joint statement after their Friday bilateral meeting, Biden and Modi "reaffirmed their commitment to the G20." WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Film director Agnieszka Holland demanded an apology from Poland's justice minister after he compared her latest film, which explores the migration crisis at the Poland-Belarus border, to Nazi propaganda. Holland said Wednesday that she planned to bring defamation charges against Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro unless she receives an apology within seven days. Holland’s feature film, “Green Border,” explores a migration crisis that has played out along Poland’s border with Belarus over the past two years. Holland said the comparison to Nazi propaganda was offensive because of what Poland suffered under Nazi occupation during World War II and given her own background. Holland's film dramatizes the migration tragedy that unfolded in the “green border” of swamps and forests between Belarus and Poland.
