Dr. Jay Bhattacharya speaks during a roundtable discussion with members of the House Freedom Caucus on the COVID-19 pandemic at The Heritage Foundation on Thursday, November 10, 2022. The NIH has been in the crosshairs of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump's pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the NIH. The NIH director oversees 27 institutes and centers that conduct early stage research on everything from vaccines for emerging pandemic threats to targets for new drugs. Bhattacharya, a Stanford health policy professor and doctor, was an outspoken critic of the U.S. government's Covid-19 policies during the pandemic. Francis Collins, the NIH director and Fauci's boss, defended Fauci in a July 2020 interview with STAT News, saying it was "unimaginable" to consider firing Fauci, as some Republicans had demanded.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is denied bail for a third time
  + stars: | 2024-11-27 | by ( Kara Scannell | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +3 min
CNN —Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in jail after a judge rejected his latest attempt for release while the rapper and music producer awaits trial on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs’ team’s motion for release on Wednesday. His decision followed a two-hour court hearing on Friday where he appeared to explore potential options and questioned prosecutors’ allegation that Combs continued to obstruct the ongoing investigation. Federal prosecutors argued that Combs could not be trusted on bail because he flouted the rules of the jail and judge. Prosecutors allege Combs tried to evade law enforcement monitoring by using several techniques, including three-way calling, to contact witnesses.

Opinion | Saving Electric Vehicles From Donald Trump

To the Editor:Re “Trump Seen as a Threat to E.V. Sales” (Business, Nov. 26):It is ironic that President-elect Donald Trump, who claims he will make America great again, wants to kill offshore wind and electric cars. President Biden tried hard to get American industry back into the green transition by promoting domestically built green energy and electric cars. Mr. Trump apparently wants to turn it all over to China. The green transition will happen regardless of what Mr. Trump thinks.

For the past year, comparing short-term CD rates vs. long-term CD rates showed that short-term CDs had better rates overall. Even the best long-term CD rates were starting to dip under the 4% mark, going into the 3.90% APY range. For example, Synchrony Bank's best CD rate is the Synchrony 9 Month CD, which offers 4.05% APY. Long-term CD rates are still lower than short-term CD rates overall. If the risk of incurring early withdrawal penalties in a long-term CD is too much, you can open a CD ladder with a long-term CD in it to mitigate that risk.
