Silicon Valley CEOs are doing battle in public. AdvertisementThe Silicon Valley elite have been at each other's throats a little more than usual lately. AdvertisementThe latest example of this came this week when Mark Zuckerberg derided Apple's Vision Pro headset in an Instagram video. The Vision Pro is a direct competitor to Meta's Quest Pro but Zuckerberg does not appear concerned for now. “If you go back to the PC era, Microsoft’s open model was the winner, and in this next generation Meta is going to be the open model, and I really want to make sure that the open model wins out again.”Zuckerberg has good reason to be on the offense.

The company named the five actors — China-affiliated "Charcoal Typhoon" and "Salmon Typhoon," Iran-affiliated "Crimson Sandstorm," North Korea-affiliated "Emerald Sleet," and Russia-affiliated "Forest Blizzard." The Chinese mecha in the film was named "Crimson Typhoon," while the Russian mecha was called "Cherno Alpha." Adjectives are then added at the front to distinguish between threat actors within the same family. Besides "Crimson Sandstorm," Iran is also affiliated with "Lemon Sandstorm" and "Marigold Sandstorm." Besides monitoring and disrupting threat actors, the company said it has been working with industry partners to exchange information.

AI models like GPT-4 are continually tweaked and updated, with OpenAI relying on interactions with users to train ChatGPT to become more conversational and useful. It works through a process called reinforcement learning from human feedback , where the AI model learns which responses are more favorable to users and adjusts accordingly. ChatGPT users said the bot was becoming lazyIn recent months, users of the chatbot, which reportedly now has around 1.7 billion users, have been complaining that it has been acting up.

But with just nine months until Americans head to the ballot box, there are few signs Congress is ready to pass any meaningful legislation on AI. In today's big story, we're looking at what a hotter-than-expected inflation report means for markets and the econom y . That silver lining doesn’t address the elephant in the room: What does the latest CPI data mean for interest rates? AdvertisementMadison Hoff/Noah Sheidlower/Business InsiderThe hot inflation report comes just a few weeks after some industry experts felt the market was in a perfect position. Stubbornly elevated inflation means Powell might be less willing to cut rates and risk further fueling inflation. It’s particularly painful for smaller companies, which tend to carry floating-rate debt more susceptible to elevated interest rates.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The CEO of ChatGPT-maker OpenAI said Tuesday that the dangers that keep him awake at night regarding artificial intelligence are the “very subtle societal misalignments” that could make the systems wreak havoc. “There’s some things in there that are easy to imagine where things really go wrong. And I’m not that interested in the killer robots walking on the street direction of things going wrong," Altman said. The OpenAI CEO tweeted last February that regulation was critical to AI development and that the world needed time to figure it out. Despite the broader fears that keep him up at night, Altman said that he believes that things will go "tremendously right." "I think we can easily imagine a world in the not-so-distant future where everybody has a better life than they have today," Altman said.

The Vision Pro may be a few generations away from reaching its full potential, some developers say. AdvertisementApple has blown people away with its new Vision Pro headset — but some feel that there's much more to do. Gurman, in his review, wrote that "today's Vision Pro is more of a preview of the future than the future itself," pointing out its unwieldy weight and short battery life. "While many on the Street are dismissing Vision Pro as noise, we strongly disagree," the firm said. Business Insider's Jordan Hart also called the Vision Pro a "promising" technology, though she noted the relatively meager offerings on the device's App Store.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is seeking trillions of dollars in investments to overhaul the global semiconductor industry, The Wall Street Journal reported. Altman could need to raise between $5 trillion and $7 trillion for the endeavor, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing one source. Nvidia has been the big moneymaker during the past year's generative AI boom, with its market cap more than tripling in 2023. Nvidia currently controls about 80% of that AI chip market with a current market cap of about $1.72 trillion, not far from overtaking tech giants like Amazon and Alphabet in market cap. Since then, OpenAI has announced a new board, including former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Quora CEO Adam D'Angelo.

Trade deadline day in the NBA gave them and plenty of other players an entirely new outlook, plus may have even reshaped the start of the playoff push as well. We’re growing some teeth as to what can be done with AI, but we also see where there’s progress, there’s attack. One of the things I like to point out with AI systems is that if your AI systems fail on people of color, you don’t have a robust system. If your AI doesn’t work on the global majority, if your AI doesn’t work for women, if your AI doesn’t work for people with disabilities, once you start expanding all of the areas we’re talking about, it comes to your AI doesn’t work for humanity. To me, that’s a proactive approach of saying, how do we build consumer AI technology in a way that’s more ethical? I was talking to Sam Altman about the climate impact of AI, especially these large language models and generative AI systems.
