Israel’s air force pounded Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh overnight, destroying dozens of buildings in several neighborhoods, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said Friday. Recently, Israel has intensified its airstrikes on the northeastern city of Baalbek and nearby villages, as well as different parts of southern Lebanon. “There’s no white knight coming,” a federal law enforcement official told NBC News, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe the posture of federal authorities in the coming weeks, after Election Day. Law enforcement officials across the country said they believe the 2024 election will have a more sustained drumbeat of partisan rhetoric and disinformation than the 2020 election. The FBI has also set up a National Election Command Post at headquarters specifically to focus on election threats, as is standard practice in an election year. Expect a “noisy” jobs report Friday that will be heavily affected by storms and a labor strike, economists say. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is forecast to report that the U.S. economy gained 110,000 jobs in October, with the unemployment rate unchanged at 4.1%. “Unfortunately, it won’t be easy to interpret the October jobs report,” Chris Waller, a member of the Fed’s Board of Governors, said earlier this month. At 4.1%, the unemployment rate is still historically low, while the rate of inflation has effectively returned to the Fed’s 2% annual target. “Without an increase in hiring, even moderate levels of job losses will likely cause the unemployment rate to pick up.”

A Montana man found slain in his tent earlier this month welcomed his alleged killer, a stranger, to his campsite and offered him a beer, the Gallatin County sheriff said Thursday. Abbey in a confession to detectives “stated, Dustin welcomed him to the campsite and offered him a beer,” Springer said. “The motives of this attack are still unknown.”DNA from a beer can found in the tent was matched by the state crime lab to Abbey, Springer said. He set up the camp on Oct. 10, a Thursday, and he planned to pick his girlfriend up from work the next night, Springer said. The girlfriend and a friend drove to the campsite on Oct. 12, a Saturday, and found Kjersem dead inside the tent, Springer said.

Some airlines have bought Airbus' new extra-long-haul A321XLR to replace their aging Boeing 757s. That's about 800 miles further than its predecessor and at least 880 miles further than its closest competitor: the aging, out-of-production Boeing 757. Carriers like United Airlines and Icelandair are lining up for the new jet, putting in more than 550 orders so far. Continental Airlines, now United Airlines, switched its 757-300 order to the newer 737-800 in 2003, for example. Icelandair will also replace its 757 fleet with the A321XLR, abandoning the largely all-Boeing fleet it has operated for decades.
