More than 8,000 people, mostly Native Hawaiians, perished at Kalaupapa, including Damien, who eventually contracted leprosy, later called Hansen’s disease. Damien’s love for Kalaupapa’s people was unconditional, said Barbara Jean Wajda of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities. “They keep me like this, make me strong.”She enjoys when people visit and when the church brings pilgrims, she said. The walls of the sisters' house, Kalaupapa’s largest dwelling, are filled with photos of the sisters who worked on the settlement after Marianne. “And we both feel connected to the patients, to the land, to the saints who were here, declared and undeclared,” Wajda said.

The Cybertruck will start at $60,990, tens of thousands more than what Tesla promised in 2019. It was the opposite, horrible launch event, disappointing range, almost abusive pricing considering what was promised," wrote one Tesla fan on Reddit . "For me, this potential purchase was always always about two things, setting aside the design: range & price. The company is offering a "range extender" which it says will bring the Cybertruck closer to its promised range. Prominent tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee also criticized the discrepancy between what Tesla promised in 2019 and what it is offering now.

One of the Molotov cocktails thrown into the office failed to ignite; the other set a bookcase on fire. Roychowdhury also admitted to spray-painting the message “If abortions aren't safe then you aren't either” on the outside of the building. Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) arrives to speak about the House Ethics Committee report and potential expulsion from Congress this week during a press conference outside on Capitol Hill on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, in Washington, DC. The House voted Friday to expel Rep. George Santos from Congress for his alleged finance crimes and his campaign lies, shrinking the GOP's already slim majority. Santos is the sixth House member in U.S. history to be booted from Congress, and the third since the Civil War. Former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi, who left the seat in New York's 3rd congressional district to run for governor, has already launched a campaign to take it back. The resolution, brought by Santos' fellow New York Republicans was the latest effort to boot the embattled 35-year-old freshman lawmaker.

Photo: Wayne Parry/Associated PressIn the past few years, Washington and Wall Street started fantasizing that the transition to net-zero carbon emissions could be an economic bonanza. When Wall Street heard green energy, it saw profits. As Ford Motor launched an electric Mustang and pickup truck, its market value topped $100 billion for the first time. With electric vehicle demand falling short of expectations, manufacturers are dialing back production and buying back stock instead.

CNN —The first production Tesla Cybertruck is expected to be delivered today – finally – four years after it was first unveiled. Stellantis’s Ram 1500 Rev electric truck will also go into production in late 2024. The Cybertruck is less than 19 feet long, according to Tesla, which is slightly shorter than other full-size trucks. Ample functional front space has been a big selling point for the Ford truck, in particular. That truck is claimed to provide up to 14,000 pounds of towing, the same figure Tesla originally claimed at the Cybertruck’s unveiling.

DETROIT (AP) — A six-week United Auto Workers strike at Ford cut sales by about 100,000 vehicles and cost the company $1.7 billion in lost profits this year, the automaker said Thursday. The company now expects to earn $10 billion to $10.5 billion before taxes in 2023. UAW workers shut down the company's largest and most profitable factory in Louisville, Kentucky, which makes big SUVs and heavy-duty pickup trucks. The UAW strike began Sept. 15, targeting assembly plants and other facilities at Ford, General Motors and Jeep maker Stellantis. At the end of the contract top-scale assembly workers will make about $42 per hour, plus they’ll get annual profit-sharing checks.

Elon Musk first promoted the Cybertruck at an "unveiling" event in 2019 and has since lamented about the "unique complexities" in making and bringing the sci-fi inspired vehicle to market. Competing automakers including Ford, General Motors and Rivian have all begun making and selling electric pickups since the Cybertruck was first unveiled, beating Tesla to the market.

Tesla plans to begin delivering its much delayed, highly anticipated Cybertruck pickup to customers on Thursday, entering one of the most lucrative but competitive segments of the auto industry. With its stainless steel body and sharp angles, the Cybertruck is unlike pickups from Ford Motor, General Motors and Ram that dominate the market. It is Tesla’s first completely new passenger vehicle in more than three years but arrives long after other automakers began selling battery-powered pickups. Will it steal customers from traditional automakers, appeal to a different crowd or become a costly flop? “It looks like something lowered from the lunar module to collect rocks on the moon.”

Lyft CEO David Risher told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday said he's bullish on the company's "on-time pickup promise" program, which was launched before the busy holiday travel season. If we are more than ten minutes late, we will pay you up to $100 in Lyft cash." Risher said over the past few weeks, Lyft has given 2.5 million rides to the airport and only had to reimburse 72 rides for late pick-ups. "We just saw the results, just yesterday, of our most recent [employee satisfaction survey]," he said. "What that tells you is that the thousands and thousands – 3000 plus team members who work for Lyft – are starting to believe.

[1/3] Tesla's new Cybertruck is shown on display at a Tesla store in San Diego, California, U.S., November 20, 2023. Cybertruck, Tesla's first new model in nearly four years, is critical to its reputation as a maker of innovative vehicles. "We dug our own grave with Cybertruck," Musk said last month, warning that it would take a year to 18 months to make the vehicle a significant cash flow contributor. The billionaire has said Tesla was likely to reach a production rate of roughly 250,000 Cybertrucks a year in 2025. Tesla has faced "enormous challenges in reaching volume production" with the Cybertruck because of its new technology and design, Musk said.

REUTERS/Mike Blake/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 30 (Reuters) - Tesla's (TSLA.O) Cybertruck has caught the attention of many drivers with its polarizing design that promises a durable build and unique features. The electric pickup, however, enters a fiercely competitive truck market, with automakers trying to one-up rivals with utility and features. Here are some specifications and features of the Cybertruck:RANGEThe base rear-wheel drive variant can travel an estimated 250 miles, while the all-wheel drive and "Cyberbeast" variants can travel 340 miles and 320 miles, respectively. The top two variants can travel further with an optional range extender that takes about a third of the truck's bed space.

The all-wheel drive, 340-mile range Cybertruck costs an estimated $79,990 before tax credits, while the "Cyberbeast" 320-mile range model will run you an estimated $99,900 before any incentives. At that event, Musk boasted, "It will be the biggest product launch of anything by far on Earth this year." At the event in Austin, Musk said the Cybertruck's hard steel body was bulletproof, and that its windows were "rock proof." Tesla first unveiled the Cybertruck — with its angular and unpainted hard steel body — in November 2019. The covid pandemic and other factors contributed to a two-year delay however, and Tesla only began early Cybertruck production in July this year. The U.S. electric pickup truck market has not expanded as quickly as some thought when the Cybertruck was initially revealed.

But since Musk unveiled it four years ago, all three Detroit automakers have shown electric trucks of their own. Musk said the Cybertruck's body is made of a stainless steel alloy developed by Tesla. When Musk unveiled the truck four years ago, he said production would start in 2021. On its website, Tesla said the a rear-wheel-drive version of the truck would start at an estimated $60,990. When the truck was unveiled in 2019, Tesla said the base version would start at $39,900, with a tri-motor, long-range model costing $69,900.

Sometimes those neighbors find an unexpected connection, like a love of condensed milk: milk boiled down until it’s thick enough to cling to the spoon, with sugar added to make it last longer. Yoo first tasted the cake in elementary school in Queens, on a day students were asked to bring in a dish from their heritage. He tried different brands of Thai tea and decided that a minimalist version, with just tea, vanilla and food coloring, would be best. Yoo goes so far as to leave the cake in the refrigerator for two nights, flipping it in between. The cake is finished with whipped cream, coconut flakes toasted near gold and lime zest with its bright sting.
