GM was disappointed about being unable to reach a deal at this time but will continue to negotiate with Unifor, the automaker said in a statement. Unifor represents about 18,000 workers at the Canadian facilities of the Detroit Three automakers, which also include Ford (F.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI). Unifor last month ratified a new three-year contract with Ford that offered wage increases of up to 25% to more than 5,600 workers at its Canadian facilities. Unifor said last week that GM was "resisting" a number of important elements of its agreement with Ford. The union had chosen the company as its second bargaining target of the Detroit Three automakers after Ford.

Samsung Q3 profit set to slump 80% as chip losses persist

[1/2] A view shows Samsung Electronics' chip production plant at Pyeongtaek, South Korea, in this handout picture obtained by Reuters on September 7, 2022. The world's biggest maker of memory chips, smartphones and televisions will announce its third-quarter preliminary earnings results on Wednesday. It compares with an operating profit of 10.85 trillion won in the September quarter last year. Analysts said Samsung's cuts to chip production also hurt economies of scale, lifting the costs of making chips. Rival Micron Technology (MU.O) forecast a quarterly loss last month, triggering concerns of a sluggish recovery in the memory chip maker's end markets such as data centres.

And while the Marlins’ postseason was short lived — ending Wednesday night after a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies — it marked a major milestone for Ng. Her hiring followed 30 years of experience in the MLB, including with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, two of the winningest teams in the league. When she joined the Marlins, the team was facing serious struggles, including the loss of big-name players, low attendance and a limited budget. “Kim was the first person I called,” Jeter told the “Today” show in 2021 of Ng’s hiring.

The literature prize has long faced criticism that it is too focused on European and North American writers, as well as too male-dominated. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded Friday and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences ends the awards season on Monday.
