In a rare occurrence, a trillion cicadas from two different broods are expected to begin appearing in the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States at the end of April. CNN —Vontae Davis, the former NFL cornerback who made two Pro Bowls with the Indianapolis Colts and memorably retired at halftime of his final game, was found dead by police at his home in South Florida, according to authorities. Davis, 35, played in 121 games over a 10-year career with the Miami Dolphins, Colts and Buffalo Bills, totaling 22 interceptions and 97 pass deflections. “The NFL is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Vontae Davis. “We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of former Dolphins CB Vontae Davis and extend our deepest condolences to his family & loved ones during this difficult time,” the Dolphins said. New York CNN —Buying an affordable home in the United States has gotten a lot harder for many people since 2020. A new analysis from Bankrate.com finds that in 22 states and Washington, DC, buyers need a six-figure household income to comfortably afford a typical median-priced home. That’s a lot more than in January 2020, when Bankrate found buyers needed a six-figure income in just six states and the District of Columbia. For instance, Bankrate found that the income needed to buy a median-priced home rose the least in North Dakota (up 9.2%); Illinois (up 27.2%); and Kansas (up 29.3%). CNN —Monday night’s Powerball jackpot has soared to an estimated $975 million after there was no grand prize winner in Saturday’s drawing. The estimated $975 million Powerball jackpot in play Monday jumped from $935 million after no tickets matched all six numbers in Saturday night’s drawing. Ranking second through fourth are $1.765 billion (one ticket in California; 2023); $1.586 billion (three tickets, 2016); and $1.08 billion (one ticket in California, 2023). Winning the Powerball jackpot means a ticket matched all five white balls plus the red Powerball. Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
