Aug 3 (Reuters) - Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O) warned Thursday that uncertainty over the dual strikes by Hollywood writers and actors could impact the timing of its film slate and its ability to produce and deliver content. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents Warner Bros Discovery and the other major studios in negotiations, asked to meet on Friday with the writers' guild to discuss the possibility of resuming talks. Warner Bros Discovery's revenue took a hit in the second quarter due to soft box office results, including the underperformance of the DC Comics-inspired film, "The Flash." Adidas has to manage Yeezy drops very carefully, Gulden said, adding that the company's guidance was conservative. Adidas' 2023 outlook does not include the second Yeezy release, which is being sold through retailers as well as Adidas' own channels. JD Sports (JD.L) said it had started selling Yeezy shoes from the second drop on Wednesday. Citi analysts expect further Yeezy drops to generate 1.5 billion euros ($1.64 billion) in revenues and 700 million euros in earnings after Adidas' planned charity donations. Adidas donated 10 million euros in the second quarter and set aside 100 million euros for further donations to charities including the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism and the Anti-Defamation League.

LONDON, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Adidas (ADSGn.DE) is still in the process of getting rid of around 100 stores as the German sportswear firm works towards a full wind-down of its business in Russia, CEO Bjorn Gulden said on Thursday. "We have about 100 stores that are not operational, and of course they have been offered on the market," Gulden told reporters on a call. "There is no timeline for that but right now we are paying the lease, so the earlier it happens the better." Adidas decided in October to permanently halt business in Russia, having closed all its stores and suspended online sales there in March last year after Russia invaded Ukraine. The company booked impairment losses of 94 million euros as a result, its annual report published in March 2023 showed.

Sales of surplus Yeezy shoes generated around 400 million euros ($437 million) in the second quarter, helping Adidas reduce its predicted loss for the year to 450 million euros, down from the 700 million euro loss previously expected. JD Sports (JD.L) said it had started selling Yeezy products from Adidas' second release of Yeezy shoes on Wednesday. Adidas said its 2023 outlook does not include the second Yeezy release. Citi analysts expect further Yeezy drops to generate 1.5 billion euros in revenues and 700 million euros in earnings after Adidas' planned charity donations. North America was the laggard, with sales dropping 16.4% in currency-neutral terms, which Adidas put down to high inventory levels there.

Bailey Point Investment filed a lawsuit in February accusing Ms. Wright of encroaching on its property. The company said that a satellite, shed and screened porch trespassed on its land and “significantly delayed and hindered” development. A lawyer for Bailey Point Investment, Helen Bacon Hester, did not respond to requests for comment. Ms. Graves estimated that she has spent $6,000 to cover the costs of responding to the developer’s complaints and to hire a lawyer. The family created a GoFundMe to help pay for the legal battle and property taxes.

Yoshimura had been told that he would succeed only if he wrote plays about Asian Americans, but Wilson assured him that was nonsense. Yoshimura intuited that his friend was “deeply wounded” and didn’t push the issue. At the preconference, they both told Wilson that the play needed cuts. The British Retail Consortium said annual shop price inflation cooled to 7.4% in July, down from 8.4% in June. Prices fell in month-on-month terms for the first time in two years, the BRC said. The BRC's inflation measure captures prices of goods sold in-store and is seen as a leading indicator for the broader official consumer price index, which measures services and energy costs. Clothing and footwear was the biggest downward driver for shop prices in July, the BRC said, while food price inflation fell to its lowest level this year. The latest official data showed Britain's high rate of inflation fell by more than expected in June and was its slowest in over a year at 7.9%%.

LONDON, July 27 (Reuters) - Britain's GMB trade union said on Thursday more than a thousand workers at two Amazon (AMZN.O) fulfilment centres in England would take strike action in early August in an ongoing pay dispute. "This industrial action will spread further: it’s clear the fight for workers’ rights at Amazon is only just beginning,” GMB Senior Organiser Rachel Fagan said in a statement. Workers in Rugeley will walk out on Aug. 3-4 and staff in Coventry will take action on Aug. 4-5, the union said. "In less than a year, our minimum pay has risen by 10% and by more than 37% since 2018," an Amazon spokesperson said. In June, the union said Amazon workers in Coventry, who had previously staged a series of walkouts since January, had voted in favour of six more months of industrial action.

Westfield owner bets on ad sales at its EU shopping malls

URW, which runs 78 shopping centres in 12 countries, launched its in-house retail media agency for Europe, Westfield Rise, in October last year to bring its advertising offerings under one banner. Westfield Rise contributed 19.6 million euros in net margin for the group over the first half of this year, up 14% compared to the first half of 2022, URW said on Thursday. The mall owner has 1,700 digital billboards in its shopping centres across Europe, and 170 dedicated spaces which it markets as offering brands "physical" contact with consumers. URW has been disposing of shopping centres in the U.S., including in downtown San Francisco where it expects a foreclosure of its Westfield mall near the troubled Tenderloin district. "The idea is really to reduce our exposure to the U.S., and to be a pan-European pure play," Tritant said.

The company confirmed its full-year outlook for currency adjusted revenue growth in a high single-digit percentage rate, and an operating profit of between 590 million and 670 million euros. Puma is likely to benefit less from the trend than Adidas because its terrace range doesn't have as much name recognition, said Adam Cochrane, analyst at Deutsche Bank. Investors will be pushing Puma and Adidas on broader strategies to navigate weak consumer demand at second-quarter results on July 26 and Aug. 3 respectively. Adidas, however, has got a big boost from selling some of its stock of discontinued Yeezy shoes. On Monday it slashed its expected 2023 operating loss to 450 million euros from 700 million euros, citing unexpectedly strong Yeezy sales. "However, the cost to compete for sportswear brands is very high, and barriers to entry are low, making retailers quite vulnerable to 'boom and bust' cycles as trends change," said Aubin.

CNN —Public campaign finance disclosures from Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign reveal numerous payments to individuals and groups whose ideologies differ significantly from traditional Democratic Party politics, a review by CNN’s KFile finds. Kennedy’s campaign paid a litany of prominent activists – which includes some anti-vaccine advocates, public health conspiracy theorists and Republicans, either individually or through their businesses – the filings show. One anti-vax activist, whose company was paid by Kennedy, once famously compared vaccine mandates to prosecution of Jews during the Holocaust. Bigtree, a film producer who also founded the anti-vaccination group Informed Consent Action Network, regularly speaks against vaccination and public health measures. BERLIN, July 23 (Reuters) - Prominent German LGBTQ+ rights activist Anastasia Biefang has expressed concerns about an increase in homophobic and anti-transgender violence and abuse in the country, comparing it to rhetoric used by the Nazis. It's not only a shame, it's also worrying," she told Reuters in an interview on Saturday, adding that "transphobic, queerphobic, homophobic violence is also increasing significantly" in Berlin. In recent decades, the German capital has been known for having an accepting culture towards gender and sexual minorities. Biefang said it was of particular concern that the growing backlash against LGBTQ+ rights was being fuelled by supporters of far-right parties. There has been a pushback against gay and trans rights in other parts of Europe, too.
