RIYAK, Lebanon (AP) — Britain’s top diplomat said Thursday that his country could officially recognize a Palestinian state after a cease-fire in Gaza without waiting for the outcome of what could be years-long talks between Israel and the Palestinians on a two-state solution. Hamas has so far taken the position that its leaders would not leave the enclave as part of a ceasefire deal. Within that sphere we’re treated to a voice performance by Woods that is a small, hilarious, somewhat dismaying tour de force. Lauren doesn’t bother to keep a lid on his simmering contempt, he just recodes it as a stream of virtue-signaling cant. But on balance their subplots are just a distraction from the endless permutations of Lauren’s perpetual ego trip. (It’s less able to afford the dull stretches that start to crop up in later episodes.) But all things considered, “In the Know” is pretty funny.

CNN —Zheng Qinwen became just the fourth Chinese woman to reach the semifinal of a grand slam after coming from behind to defeat Anna Kalinskaya at the Australian Open. Against Yastremska, the 21-year-old will join Zheng Jie, Li Na and Peng Shuai in the list of Chinese women to reach a grand slam semifinal. Of those, only Li has ever won a major: the French Open in 2011 and the Australian Open in 2014. According to Opta, Zheng is also the fourth Asian player in the Open Era to reach the final four of a grand slam before turning 22. Prior to this year’s Australian Open, she had made one previous appearance in the quarterfinals of a grand slam at last year’s US Open.

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain plans to announce new sanctions in the coming days targeting Houthi financing of attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Tuesday. U.S. and British forces carried out a fresh round of strikes on Monday in Yemen, targeting a Houthi underground storage site as well as missile and surveillance capabilities used by the Iran-aligned group. "We're going to use the most effective means at our disposal to cut off the Houthi's financial resources, where they are used to fund these attacks," Sunak told parliament. "We are working closely with the United States on this and plan to announce new sanctions measures in the coming days." Sunak also said British Foreign Secretary David Cameron would visit the Middle East this week.
