The controversy surrounding Derrick and Shekinah Church was originally brought to public attention when Derrick's sister, Melanie Wilking, made a viral video in 2021 claiming she lost touch with Derrick due to the church. AdvertisementShinn and Shekinah Church were placed under more scrutiny after the docuseries was released on May 29, and it rocketed straight to the top of Netflix's most-watched list. In a video posted to Instagram on Monday, Derrick said that some viewers have started sending her death threats because "Dancing for the Devil" depicted the couple negatively. In the documentary, Derrick's sister and parents claim that she abandoned them because of the church.
