Fortescue founder toys with reverse greenwashing

First the $43 billion iron ore miner’s CEO, Fiona Hick, left abruptly on Sunday, barely six months after joining. But in trying to shrug off the mounting exodus, founder and Executive Chair Andrew Forrest, also known as Twiggy, introduces a new risk: reverse greenwashing. His approach to the energy transition is forcing a lot of change on the company in short order. That process surely would have involved rigorous discussions to ensure they were on board with Forrest’s goals and methods. That makes his absolutist twist to climate spin as unhelpful as the more traditional form of greenwashing.

Does the MIND Diet Prevent Dementia?
  + stars: | 2023-08-31 | by ( Alice Callahan | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
What is the MIND diet? The MIND diet was first described in a 2015 study led by Martha Clare Morris, a nutritional epidemiologist at Rush University, who died in 2020. The MIND diet is unique, however, in that it calls for at least six servings of leafy greens and two servings of berries each week. Does the MIND diet benefit the brain? But these studies can’t prove that the MIND diet itself leads to better brain health.

CNN —The Fulton County, Georgia, judge overseeing the sprawling 2020 election interference racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants says that all proceedings in his courtroom related to the case will be livestreamed and allowed to be televised. The ruling, however, would be subject to change and would not apply to any portions of the case moved to federal court. In a court hearing Thursday, Superior Court of Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee, who was assigned the case, said he would make all hearings and possible trials available to be broadcast on the Fulton County Court YouTube channel. McAfee’s ruling is limited to the Fulton County state case. District Attorney Fani Willis argued in her new brief that such a finding would not be sufficient for the case to be moved.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Bitcoin's gains from a U.S. court ruling that bolsters future prospects for retail investor-friendly funds have rescued the original cryptocurrency from a dismal month, offering new optimism over its longer-term outlook. The win for Grayscale is likely to now factor into the SEC's future decisions for spot bitcoin ETFs filed by several major financial firms this year, including the world's largest asset manager BlackRock (BLK.N), investors said. Any advent of spot bitcoin ETFs could help the crypto industry tap a glut of previously untapped retail investor cash, in turn bolstering the price of bitcoin. Still, bitcoin's prospects remain tied to the performance of wider markets, some investors said.

Girl math is a viral Tiktok trend where women justify spending with their discretionary income. Girl math is often about quality of life decisions and the impact of your spending's value. Maybe girl math isn't the trap it seemsFinancial expert Kelly Ann Winget, the millennial founder of a solo-female-founded private equity fund, says that girl math isn't exactly what its critics describe. "If women are using girl math to justify spending that doesn't derail their financial well-being, that is a good thing. "Instead of focusing on girl math so much, think about ways to secure your income," Winget tells Gen Zers.

The Canadian dream-pop band Alvvays played first; its last album, “Blue Rev,” was one of my favorites of 2022, and I especially love this fuzzed out, gently melancholic second track. Tanya Tucker: “Delta Dawn”When I traveled to the Gorge in Washington earlier this summer to catch Brandi Carlile’s Echoes Through the Canyon festival — and, you know, a certain very, very special headliner — I was lucky enough to catch an early evening set by the country icon Tanya Tucker. My first favorite part was when Tucker uncorked a bottle of her signature tequila and passed it around the front row. Each Highwoman played a solo cover during the set, and Shires wowed me with a poignant rendition of “Always on My Mind,” which she dedicated to Bobbie Nelson. Luckily, you didn’t just have to be there: The studio recording of the song, on which Nelson played piano shortly before she died last year, is gorgeous, and quite close to the version Shires played live.

The Biden administration on Thursday announced plans to begin F-16 pilot training for Ukrainian troops. REUTERS/Adrees Latif/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 24 (Reuters) - Two U.S. electric grids issued alerts warning of the potential for power shortages on Thursday due to a brutal heat wave blanketing Texas and U.S. Central states. ERCOT faces "a high potential to enter emergency operations this evening" due to low wind generation and high power demand, the grid operator said. AccuWeather forecast temperatures in Houston, the biggest city in Texas, would reach 107 degrees Fahrenheit (41.7 degrees Celsius) on Thursday. MISO projected power use would reach 127,195 MW on Thursday, topping the system's all-time high of 127,100 MW in July 2011.

ERCOT forecast demand would reach 85,296 megawatts (MW) on Thursday, just shy of its 85,435 MW record set Aug. 10. MISO projected it would have 125,907 MW of supplies available with 120,656 MW from internal resources and 5,251 MW of imports. Revenue: $11.22 billion, according to Refinitiv. A closer look at estimates shows just how reliant Nvidia has become on AI chips. By contrast, Nvidia's Datacenter group, which houses AI chips, is looking at a 111% increase in revenue to $8.03 billion, according to estimates. Nvidia's AI chips, including the A100 and H100, have been difficult to purchase in recent months as startups, big companies, governments and cloud providers all have placed orders. Last year, the U.S. placed export restrictions on Nvidia, which forced the company to make specialized, slower versions of its AI chips for the Chinese market.

Altria seeks US import ban on Juul e-vapor products

The move escalates a dispute between the two e-cigarette makers after Juul filed a similar patent infringement case against NJOY at the ITC in June. NJOY said in its filings that Juul products infringe two of its patents, and that it intends to obtain a ban on products including its currently marketed Juul device and Juul pods. NJOY also sued Juul in Delaware on Tuesday for infringing the same patents, seeking an unspecified amount of damages. Juul filed its own patent lawsuits against NJOY and Altria at the ITC and in Arizona federal court in June, seeking money damages and a ban on imports of NJOY's Ace vapor device. Altria won more than $95 million from cigarette rival R.J. Reynolds in North Carolina federal court last year after a jury found RJR infringed other Altria e-cigarette patents.
